Dear Applicant,

The Graduate Committee of the History Department has considered your request for a teaching assistantship for the Fall 2003 semester. The Committee has deemed you qualified, and you will be considered for a teaching assistantship as funding becomes available.

If you have any questions, please contact Prof. Martin Melosi, director of graduate studies. He will be happy to discuss your prospects of receiving an assistantship for 2003-04.

Due to the rigorous demands of graduate work, the Graduate Committee discourages its teaching assistants from assuming teaching responsibilities in area colleges and universities. The Graduate Committee will rescind a teaching assistantship if the graduate student teaches more than one course per semester in an area college or university and reserves the right to rescind the teaching assistanship if you are not making satisfactory progress towards the degree. You must report to the Graduate Director all outside employment.

The faculty is eager to see you complete your degree and is ready to assist you in all academic matters.

Sincerely, Joseph Pratt,

Professor and Chairperson
