The one where April channels a dead schmaltz merchant.

Synopsis: Instead of talking like a regular person in the real world and assuming that loads of Christmas cards equals busloads of friends, April is assigned a glurgey line that would kill a diabetic on contact.

Summary: This is the sort of fat weekly that leads to fawning praise from people ( Read more... )

It is a fat weekly that would be taped to a fridge like a normal one that said the same thing. That's because the fan base would still praise Lynn for her lovely column where The Little Girl says the wise beyond her years thing (and totally not treacly idiocy designed to appeal to rubes) to The Mother.

Shmaltz is right. A real little girl would say "we got a lot of friends." April has to say something out of a crappy Hallmark movie (in other words, a Hallmark movie) to provide the punchline, but it's not something that would ever come out of the mouth of an actual human child. In fact, very few people of any age would say something so trite and twee out loud because, come on, this is too much sugar intake for anyone to take in one dose

I'm amazed these people have that many friends. Hell, I'm amazed they have ANY.

also, "phone" as a verb is very anachronistic, especially for a kid to be using it.

One second after a person starts thinking for himself and not mindlessly genuflecting to these horrible people, that person is said to have declared war on them.

Lynn's Comments:

Today's notes:

The best part of this strip, in my humble opinion is the invention of the word “FLADDAP.” It rivals “Ka-FLOOMPA- GUSH” (a toilet plunger) for made-up sound effects.

would be easier to take if she copped to stealing from Don Martin.

Lynn says "best; I say "most annoying."

I seem to remember Don Martin's wife did outright accuse Lynn of stealing from Don at one point.

The only characters capable of believing the lie she coughed up are Moose and Squirrel.
