Also, as I have said before, Lynn/Elly's poor time management leads her to fort herself away which means that situations generally resolved themselves by the time she finally got up and looked:
Rather than admit that she needs to make time for her family or that rushing made her work crap, Our Hero is all about fake emotions and lies getting in her way.
Elly COULD be home to make dinner instead of expecting her teen child to play Mom, but that would mean Elly's hobby job wasn't important. Elly wanted so badly to play Pretend Career Woman with Staff at Home to Prepare Meals, and was so put out when Liz did not oblige.
"I'm so angry at you, Liz. I came home and said a version of 'honey, I'm home' and you were supposed to say something like 'supper's on the table, dear, tell me about your hard day while I serve you.' And you ruined it for me."
I remember the eyeglasses in bulk thing. They were supposed to be easy to find so Elly could save the day by......uh......jeez......delivering a pious, empathy and sympathy free lecture about Liz choosing to ruin her eyesight to tie her poor mother down.
To a narcissist , anything done to benefit other people has to be a defeat. It makes it damn hard to be generous because they're looking for the gotcha, the trap, the betrayal.....
Yes. What I see happening is the kds clean up any damage while Elly is doing something useless so when she gets off her ass to look, there's nothing to see.

Michael COULD be with his family in the yard during the fire, but that would mean his book wasn't important.

I am still confused by story with quotes around it, is that an Elly-ism for "lie"?
