Also, it says a lot of nasty things about the hollow snob that she can't imagine someone from a 'good' home being mean to the Patterson family. Look at what she does to Candace after she calls Liz out on being a manipulative coward:

Again, we should be grateful we were spared a look-in at the lives of Paul, Warren and Eric a few years down the road. I am sure they all ended up wrecks, constantly harassed by bad relationships and worse luck.

If people can live happy lives despite the disapproval of the Pattersons, life would cease to be fair. This sort of thinking is why Elly wants never to return to the library: it could get along fine (if not better) without her.

I don't know who Alice Munro is but I still wanna know why Candace turned into Tim Roth in bad drag. Nobody's nose doubles in size in one year.
