These people are so prickly and intense; every minor annoyance is an occasion to become a freaking volcano. Between this strip and the window-washing snafu, it's a wonder that the Pattersons did not get their dream of kids being too terrified to move or say anything come true.
this is one reason Elly pisses me off. Her reaction to Michael helping Mrs. Baird isn't "that was a nice thing you did". It's "why are you helping her and not ME!?" Michael's probably tired!
How come the kids are apparently more familiar with cabbage patch dolls than they are with the concept of adopted kids?
(P.S. if any kid ever asked me why I didn't have kids I'd probably tell them that was a rude question. Not that that would stop them.)
She probably wouldn't like the only rational answer: "Because you ask why I don't help someone who'd rather eat a bucket of live scorpions than be grateful."

It also explains not doing things of their own free will. Mike, Liz and April like helping people who can be pleased.

Because Mrs. Baird will be grateful for what I do, and you'll be ready with a list of all the things I did "wrong."
