I'm depressed at the thought that this woman got paid great money to write and submit this.
Elly is the only person on the planet who thought that this was even mildly amusing. The only effort Lynn put into this was in trying to convince us that there was something here to laugh at. The punchline doesn't even make sense- why would Elly not be "sure" how many "b's" the sign has? She can see it.
This is in the "Lynn didn't even try, she had only thirty seconds" category.
The kiddie cartoon on Nick with the albino boy in the orange golf shirt has someone channeling Season One Hawkeye too. They at least have the decency to have her dad be the only one who laughs.
This joke falls into the elusive category of "joke that I have probably told". I know for myself, if I approach an apartment marked as 2B or a Suite 2B for a business address, I am likely to bust out the "to be or not to be" line as a joke. There are only a handful of comic strips of For Better or For Worse that have actually made me laugh. However, there have been a few where I could say, "I have had that same experience." In this case, the experience was doing a joke about that line from Shakespeare. It is one of the easiest ones to do, and I suspect that quite a few people have done it. The difference between me and Elly is that I would do that joke in front of people likely to get the joke, as opposed to Elly who appears to be amusing only herself.
It's one of those jokes that has been done to death, like the line "Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore" in movies or the phrase "game changer" in reviews. It needs to be tossed into the ashcan for at least a generation.

She should have April thought-bubble "not everything is a 'straight line', Mom."
In any event, this sort of thing is fodder for Elly whining to Connie about how the children accuse her of not listening.

I know how April feels, nobody listens to me either and I'm no little kid.

A Patterson would never say that. That would go against their family creed.

No notes today. I guess Jason Mraz didn't write in about the wordplay.
