Elly thinks that since nobody deliberately shoved April's head under water, she shouldn't feel like this. The defunct outreach group that commissioned Hate Hurts You had an earlier gem that's germane: "Stand Not Idly By."
Because the pretentious twerp thinks that people will think less of her if she knows anything about her children. I like the woman her acolyte Jan Eliot created better. She thinks that if she cures her oldest child of being normal, her husband won't get blowed up by a roadside bomb in Iraqistan.
To paraphrase Soundwave, crazy widow, superior, lazy trophy wife, inferior.
This is one that should worry Elly. Pre-K is new for April, but April has been doing daycare for years. As we will learn, Becky McGuire, who is April's best friend, is also in Pre-K. That clingy should be setting off alarm bells with any normal parent whose daughter was still traumatized from nearly dying.
As I said up thread, the blasted dimwit thinks that since she did not deliberately hold April's head underwater, she should not have to deal with this. She needs the same electroshock therapy that Mike could benefit from.
April is being Unreasonable for not getting over it; I mean, everyone else is moving on, what is her deal? Oh right- she lives to be a headache to her mother.
If I thought Elly deserved credit for being a human, I'd think this was her immense guilt at almost killing her child with her negligence forcing her to black out any suggestion that the Unfortunate Event was anything more than a minor mishap (a "toppling.") It's done, it's over, let's Never Talk About It Again, like it was a broken plate (not a broken pottery bird- that's important.)
But she doesn't. She makes the world a worse place by being in it. Her idiotic screeching about upsetting a pre-verbal infant means that Mike will die resenting Liz while her stupidly shoving a crib in Liz's room means that Liz will resent April forever.
It is one of those moments where I wondered if Lynn realized that by making April clingy, she was not reflecting an April nervous about pre-K, but an April still recovering from a near death experience.
Carol lets Dawn wear the same minidress Elly raised a stink about.
It is kind of interesting that after Candace was condemned for wearing revealing clothing last year, Dawn is not getting any reaction for her mini-dress. Of course, the problem may not be that Dawn is wearing a minidress, but that Lynn was unable to draw a dress that did not look like a t-shirt.

No amount of being clingy will distract Elly from her make-work chores and force her to interact with her child. NONE.

Alarm bells are not convenient and therefore will be ignored.

That's probably why Karen was let go: she could.
