The woman only allows herself thirty seconds per strip.
This probably foreshadows the bug and a windshield bullshit we're going to be wading through. This is because he can't be asked to live in the real world like a boring, ordinary person.
What we're dealing with is that while Rhetta lives in the real world where actions have consequences and what people say means something, Mikey Boy lives in a fantasy world where he's in love with being in love:
Also, Lynn loves stupid, theatrical bullshit gestures like this. Take, as by way of example, Shawna-Marie's marriage to Squiggly Line (we don't get a name and all we get is this):
"Do you think they are lost or something?" That might be the most nonsensical, clunky set-up for a punchline in a strip rife with nonsensical, clunky set-ups for punchlines.
Yes, I'm sure two adults who are not in your immediate field of vision at this moment are "lost or something." Ultimate Eyeroll.
There's a reason why I introduced secret nuclear testing into the murder mystery. Not only do we have misshapen animals and Gap-Toothed Smiley Faced "HOO" Boy, the characters talked as if they were victims of heavy metal poisoning.
I'd suspect Granthony of poisoning Mason's drink, but that would be accusing him of being proactive. If it doesn't involve grabbing Liz or jumping into her car without invite, he doesn't do it.

Plus she is clearly going for the "clip it out for the refrigerator" crowd and not trying to write a great punchline or tell a good story.

And they also typically don't think in synch with quotes from old movies that they would never have seen.
