The one where the people have bad wordplay-enhanced fun at the expense of one of the spoilsports who hate parties.

It's also when Liz erased the defeat that was Anthony's first marriage.

20 years from 1995 is 2015. They don't make it that long. Only 13 years left in this comic strip before the new-runs.

Also, Elly can shut her damn piehole about lying about her age. Not everyone has a crippling case of Social Anxiety Disorder and very few people are horrified by the idea that they're a lot like their mother.

This is the second-to-last appearance of Carol Enjo and the last time we will see Carol Enjo with Elly Patterson.

Keith vanished years ago because Lynn doesn't want John to have friends. Brian will bolt off to Japan because racism and idiocy. Only Dawn remains to be an ethnic token 'friend' 'natrally subordinate to Candace.

So much for really being friends with the Masudas.

Hmmmm. Given Lynn's irritating tendency to assign Liz plots to April and her active hatred for Becky, I should think that we'd continued on, the Martian would have been assigned a She-Weed there to be a Caucasian sounding-board/cheerleader for Elly.

That is true. John's only friend is Ted and he is supposed to be a villain. Eventually she gets to the point when Lynn is mocking Rod openly for his model train hobby and John develops a cadre of nerdy train enthusiasts, but none of them have any names.

Friends are a threat to her control. Friends encourage him in dentistry which is a threat. She's an idiot who kind of deserved what she got.

As promised, here's how John reacts to the idea of having a fiftieth birthday party:

With that last one, since we know John never did anything like that for Elly; this is clearly a shot at Rod Johnston. In 1999, Lynn would have been 52, so this moment had already passed.

As always, Rod a good scraping because Lynn never bothered learning that he can't read minds. She thinks he's being deliberately obtuse when he doesn't know her needs because she's a seventy year old toddler.

I can imagine Rod in 1999 reading this one on Lynn's drawing board right after she did it and thinking, "Dammit! That was 2 years ago. Is that the reason why she has been mad for the last 2 years?"

Lynn's Comments:

Someone isn't owning up to the hazards her behavior imposes on others:

Yup…another bad pun. I often wondered why my editors didn’t ask for a revision. Maybe they were sympathetic…they, too, were controlled by relentless deadlines.

Her editors begged Lynn not to do these kinds of jokes because they would not translate. This one is barely translatable even in English. "Turn back the hands of time" to "Turn black the cans of thyme". Yeesh!

All this because she doesn't understand that fear of public gatherings is universal.
