so sajee's post totally inspired me to EXCLAIM about the fabulous food i have in my fridge...
2 weeks ago i headed out to the
St Kilda Veg Out Market... and since i had such a fabulous time, I went to the
Gasworks Farmer's Market (mostly same stalls) this past Saturday...
these are the things i have bought over the last 2 outings...
- THE BEST BROCCOLI EVER - soooo sweet and flavoursome... perfect parboiled
- Fresh asparagus - not as orgasmic as the broccoli but fresh and sweet and nummy
- rhubarb - $5 for a massive bunch - bought at both markets. I was INSTRUCTED not to cook it with apple, so i stewed it with brown sugar and mixed berries. SUPAHGOOD. So good i bought more even though the woman who sells it is kinda rude and bossy
- FRESH JERSEY MILK! unpasteurised, full of cream and OHSOGOOD, very exciting with the teas i bought last weekend, especially the raspberry rush
- Fresh organic free range eggs - $4 a dozen cos it was the end of the day!
- Dried fruit and nuts from 'happy fruit'- a combination of sultanas, apricots and almonds and i bought peaches the fortnight before, so i've mixed them all up for work snacks and it is SOOOOO Good. I cannot begin to explain!
- Fresh granny smith apples - like FROM THE TREE!!! super crispy and tasty. - $3 a kilo! (5 apples)
- similarly with blood oranges and summer gold oranges. about 10 for $5 SO wonderful
- venison schnitzels. crumbed them myself. delicious and venison is low fat, high iron, high protein. GOLD
- a large free range chicken which i've sectioned and frozen (after making coq au vin with the thigh and feeding the scraps to kittehs)
- Gluten free organic buckwheat pancake mix for esther XD
- quark!!!!!!
- quark with mixed herbs. mmm
- phillipa's bread
- spice mixes from spice bazaar
not to mention all the things i've tasted, organic cheeses, goats cheeses, christmas puddings of all flavours, fresh smoked meats, home made sausages of all types of meats, fruit, dried fruit, nuts, yoghurt, breads, cakes, jams, mayonnaise, spreads, chutneys, smoked barramundi dip, pestos, pates, honeys, felafel...
breakfast is seriously not necessary!
And i've drooled over the cuts of angus beef, smoked pork hock, lamb shanks, brie brie brie, goats cheese (the black silk in particular), cupcakes, fresh barramundi, the fresh mayonnaise, museli... so many things i want to get!
I shall hopefully be going to the veg out markets Nov 3, but i', shooting a short film (YAY) so depends on my call time. It's open at 8.30 though, so should be able to pick up some blueberries this time!!! (have been sold out each time!) as well as some other things i'd like... i;m getting a feel for what's available so i can plan and budget better
definitely more rhubarb, apples, eggs, milk and dried fruit. I'll pick a meat - either beef or lamb shanks and then spoil myself with some things!
So who wants to come with me XDXD
