It's kind of funny things you think
at times like these
Like I haven't seen Barbados
So I must get out of this
I can't actually listen to this song very often, because I find it so overwhelming, but I think it is an amazing piece of soul baring songwriting.
4. Mary's in India - Dido
Just dance,
just drink
and just see the things I'll probably never get the chance to see
This is such an adorable little story song. Took me ages to really pick up on what it was saying and once i did i fell in love with it.
5. Momentum - Aimee Mann
So, for the sake of momentum,
I'm condeming the future to death
so it can match the past
I don't listen to the magnolia album nearly enough XD. Interestingly... wasn't the slightest bit interested in the movie, but Aimee Mann's soundtrack is beautiful. It was driving the great ocean road this summer that it struck me how valid this song is to my life at times.
6. Mabelline - Simon and Garfunkel
Cadillac lookin' like it's standin' still
And I caught Maybellene at the top of the hill
This is coupled with Kodachrome on my live album and it always gets me boppin'. Even now thinking about it i can feel those rhythms through my spine.
7. My Old Friend the Blues - The Proclaimers
Lovers leave and friends will let you down
But you're the only sure thing that I've found
No matter what I do I'll never lose
My old friend the blues
One of the good things from my relationship with my ex was my discovery of the good side of the proclaimers (ie NOT 500 miles). This is just a lovely song.
8. Maddest Kind of Love - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
The maddest kind of love...is a love you know won't last
It fills your heart with passion
Makes you lie about your past.
This is from one of my favourite albums ever - the Three to Tango soundrack - full of swingin' sounds. This song is a bit more sultry, a slow bluesy swing.
9. My Sharona - the Knack
Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up with a touch of the younger kind
Come on. You know you love it. Bestest one hit wonder ever. and also, dirty XD
10. (the) Man I Love - George and Ira Gershwin
Maybe I shall meet him Sunday
Maybe Monday, maybe not
Still, I'm sure to meet him one day
Maybe Tuesday will be my good-news day
Such a delicate hopeful little jazz standard. And kind of appropriate in moments of despair.
