Hmm watched The Dark Knight just now. All I have to say is I'm really impressed by the new Nolan series of Batman.
I love Batman over other superheroes like Spiderman, Superman because unlike the others, Batman is only human. He doesn't have any superhuman abilities to supplement his quests. He feels pain when he gets whacked. He has to stitch his wounds when they tear. All he has to guide him is his intellect, resilience and morals (and Alfred). And in addition to that, Batman is the icon of hope for Gotham. He is the epitome of how far Man can go to further their goals and to give the best for their crusades. This is what he says in The Dark Knight, that "Batman has no limits".
The movie's central theme - how a hero clings onto his ideals before he is disillusioned by the cruel world to sink into evil itself - is shown starkly between Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent. One is the White Knight of Gotham, the one who can fight crime without a mask and be lauded by the public. The other is the Dark Knight, the one who is despised for not acceding to the Joker; the one whom Gotham does not deserve yet he still continues to protect in the darkness. As the Joker rightly puts it, Batman "is truly incorruptible". He cannot use guns to kill his enemies however villanous they may be. He does not allow his emotions to get the better of him. His morals and beliefs are his strongest weapons against his enemies.
Batman is not infallible; he is only human. But he never stops protecting the city that he loves.
