Chapter 4: His Thoughts, Her Questions

It was a rather cold morning; the moment Byul opened her eyes it was already raining outside her bedroom window. She just wants to stay home and enjoy the weekend lazing around. But Yunho showed up her doorstep even before she could manage to get back to sleep after eating a hearty breakfast of hotdogs, sunny side up egg, rice, and coffee; he told her to get ready and accompany him in yet another appointment in order to prepare for his wedding day. She concluded, that the heavens must be crying for her or rather with her heart.

So, here she is right now, sitting in a comfortable sofa of a Wedding Couturier Shop waiting for Yejin to arrive. Yunho was typing down his mobile phone, maybe sending a message to his late fiancée.

“Is she close by?” she asked after taking a sip of the hot chocolate offered to them by the shop assistant a while ago.

“Nope, she’ll need an hour or more to get here. The traffic is really heavy in the main streets.”

“Oh!” Byul sighed after rubbing her palms together, still feeling a bit cold.

“Still cold?” she heard him ask in a concerned tone, already trying to remove the scarf wrapped around his neck.

“Yun-oppa, I’m fine.”

“Are you sure?”

“Positive!”

Byul turned to look at Yunho who sat closer to her now. Wheels turning inside her head, and once again she’s reminded of the many questions she wanted to badly ask Yunho ever since he told her about the wedding. Should I ask him now? She asked herself silently. Well, she should know the reason at least as to how Yejin got so lucky to be chosen by the man she loves to be his partner for life.

“Why are you marrying Yejin-shii?” the words which are supposed to be just in her mind escaped her lips suddenly.

Yunho turned to her with a confused look on his face. “What kind of question is that?”

She decided to just go on with it anyway. At least, her questions will be answered, though her feelings won’t be. “You did say it’s hard for you to marry. Then, all of a sudden you are. What made you marry her?”

“Hmm…” Yunho rested his face on his palm, elbows on top of the sofa’s backrest, as though thinking. “You remember about me saying I wanted a woman who can control me?” Byul nodded her head in response. “Well, Yejin can really control me. She’s the type of woman who is successful enough and strong enough to be on my level and control me.”

“Oh! But she’s older,” she voiced her distaste.

“By two years, agi~ and noonas are hot,” he naughtily moved his eyebrows up and down.

“Men!” she muttered as if exasperated.  Control over you? Why didn’t you just marry me then? I can control you just fine, and you can even keep your manly pride because I do rely on you from time to time. Why her? Why not me? She asked in her head further, without enough courage to say it to his face.

“Do you love her?” she asked after a while, when Yunho stopped laughing over her comment.

“Sure I do,” he replied nonchalantly.

“You don’t sound like you do just now.”

“Well, I wouldn’t be marrying her if I don’t,” he answered her in a voice he uses when talking to a kid who’s being stubborn.

“Araso,” she heard the door open as soon as she thought of giving the topic a rest and looked over to the newcomer. “Your fiancee is here. We can finally start the fitting.”

“Hi Hon! Hi Byul! Sorry I’m late,” Yejin said looking so apologetic.

“It’s okay, no problem,” Byul replied smiling the best way she can.

“Yeah. It’s the traffic’s fault hon.”

She saw Yunho give Yejin a peck on the lips. Byul closed her eyes to that, feeling jealousy eating her up and that familiar feeling of longing.

The next few minutes were torture for Byul. The couple looked very sweet together as they picked various wedding dresses and tuxedos. Like, there was really no need for her to be there. Her heart breaks every time Yejin comes out wearing a wedding dress and she sees Yunho with that mesmerized look. She can’t help but blame him though, the woman is a beauty. When it was Yunho’s turn to fit tuxedos, she was spazzing in her head, he looked very gorgeous. She longed for him once more, if only she’s the one marrying him and not the girl who’s grinning giddily beside her. In the end, the couple decided to have a new wedding dress made based on the cut Yejin thought perfect for her and a new tux for Yunho as well.

She felt Yunho drape his arms over her shoulders, he smiled to her, “Your turn to do some fitting agi~”

“Eh? Do I really have to? Just have my measurements taken and I’ll pick a design then that’s it. You told me I could keep my gown,” hating the idea.

“No. We need to see what cut would fit you best,” he countered.

“But-” she tried to protest more but he covered her mouth and gently led her to the fitting room.

“No more buts. Come out when you’re ready. We’re not leaving unless you do some fitting.”

...

“Oh my God! She looks so pretty, don’t you think hon?” Yunho felt Yejin nudge her. He looked up from the magazine he’s reading and felt his jaw drop. True, indeed, Byul looked so pretty in the gown she’s wearing. The strapless gown reached just above her knee with a fluffy skirt making her look like some sort of a princess, the upper portion was made of lace over silk.

“Yunho?” he heard Yejin mutter again.

“Yeah. Very pretty! Agiya jjang!” He decided to even give her a thumbs-up.

“Okay. This is it. I don’t wanna fit anymore,” Byul told him with that decided look on her face and he knew he couldn’t force her any more so he chuckled and gave her a nod of approval.

Observing Byul, he saw her take her mobile phone out and cutely pose for some shots. He can’t help but smile looking at her acting that way. From the pretty woman a while ago, she transformed into a cute little girl in his eyes. This is why he treasures Byul so much, and this is why he never had the courage to deal with the various feelings Byul evokes deep within him. It’s not legal, he’s supposed to be her oppa and she his yah-dongsaeng.

“Yah! They’re waiting for you to finish up your pictorials, Byul,” chuckling, he decided to disturb her. He saw her face turn red from embarrassment and hurriedly placed her mobile back before going back to the fitting room to change. It made him laugh out loud.

Yejin laughed along with him. “Evil Yunho, you really love teasing your dongsaeng so much. She looked so embarrassed.”

“Well, it makes her look cute, right honey?”

“Yeah. She’s cute. I like her already.”

“Who wouldn’t? Well, except for the ones who got a taste of how scary she is when mad,” he smiled thinking of all those many memories of Byul over the years, he must admit even him got creep out the first time he saw her mad. Byul have different personas hidden inside her seemingly uncaring self.

Speaking of uncaring, her questions today really made him think and wonder. Byul was the type who asks what’s inside that pretty head of hers, but she was never the type to pry further like she did today. He thought maybe he should spend a few days just bonding with her the next weekend, maybe she has some problems or issues she can’t talk about with him since whenever they’re together it’s usually just because of her helping up with the wedding. Besides, he misses bonding with her. Maybe they can have a movie night at his place filling themselves with a bucket of popcorns mixed with cheesy chips and knick knacks, go for a swing at the nearby park, or enjoy coffee and cakes at his favorite café overlooking the Han River. Yeah, they should do those, next weekend.

Byul coming out of the fitting room stopped him from his musings. “Yunho and I are going over to the flower shop to finalize the details on the bouquets and flower arrangements, want to come with us?” he heard his fiancee ask.

“No. I have somewhere else to go, and it’s not my wedding, I don’t need to be there,” he saw her smile at Yejin.

“Oh! Okay, meeting up with Sho-kun?”  Yejin asked, teasing Byul.

He saw Byul smile and he can’t help but feel the kind of emotion he felt the moment he saw Byul and Sho together outside the restaurant that day. He couldn’t pinpoint as to what kind of emotion is it up until now, it’s making him confused. Am I jealous? He couldn’t be. He has no right to be.

“Nope. I’m looking at what wedding gift I can give you both. Sho is working on a new documentary in Busan now,” hearing her reply somehow made him feel relieved in a weird kind of way.

“I already sent him a photo of me wearing that gown anyway, that should keep him inspired for the rest of the day so I don’t have to meet him,” she added smiling smugly. Do you really have to add that? he asked inside his head. Now I'm relieved no more.

“Yeah, and to keep him from looking at any pretty province girl there, right?” he saw Yejin and Byul high five. While he is fuming, not liking the idea of his Byul sending one of those cute photos to the man.

Wait, his Byul? Aish, Jung Yunho you’re crazy, he told himself.
