How I Met Your Mother on German tv

Guys, a heads up that How I Met Your Mother is starting this saturday at 2.10pm on Pro7.

Some time ago diehappy12 and I were pondering what the show might be called if it ever were to air in Germany. And we couldn't come up with a name that wasn't ridiculous like "Wie ich deine Mutter kennenlernte". xD
Appareantly Pro7 wasn't able to come up with a better solution either, so they just kept the original title. +g+

There was a lolarious article about HIMYM in the TV Spielfilm and I'm gonna paraphrase it because they couldn't be more right about what they said.

The article started with: How do you know that a sitcom is really good? When Pro7 dubs it with inept voice actors, translates all the jokes wrong and it still manages to make you laugh.

Which, YES!!!! And then the author gushes about how awesome HIMYM is for three quarters of a page and finishes with the conclusion not even Pro7 can ruin a show like How I Met Your Mother. xD

So now you can expect what was obvious from the beginning: HIMYM will suck in German, well, duh!

Anyway the article was also about sitcoms on German tv in general. And they interviewed the head of programming of Pro7 why a show like HIMYM ends up in the Saturday afternoon slot and not in primetime. And the guy from Pro7 said that in Germany no one is interested in sitcoms and that they wouldn't get enough viewers in primetime. The author of the article didn't agree and said that when Pro7 ruined the dubbing of every sitcom so that the jokes wheren't making any sense any more it's no surprise when no one tunes in.

I don't know. I couldn't care less when HIMYM is on in Germany or if anyone watches it, but I think the Saturday afternoon slot isn't the worst for a sitcom in Germany. When I was still watching German tv, I gleefully tuned in Pro7 every Saturday and sat through three or so hours of sitcoms. And I'm confident that everyone in Germany who likes sitcoms did the same.
And most of all, that timeslot hasn't hurt Friends, now has it? I mean, when that show started it was on at like Tuesday at 2 in the friggin morning. Until it got moved to Saturday afternoon. And there it gained enough viewers over the years that Pro7 did actually place it at primetime. Okay, at that point we were in season 8, it was not a sitcom any more, but the worst soap opera in friggin history. But still... +g+

Anyway, I just thought it was funny that a tv magazine actually criticized a tv-station and that they were also of the opinion that German dubbing sucks hard. And I feared that me and my fellow fens were just over-protective of our shows. +g+

(how sad is it that I still don't have a himym icon)

tv, himym
