"Counteracting Obesity"

I went running today before my shift at lab. It’s a regular part of my daily routine again and it feels excellent. Perhaps I’ll aim to get in really good shape again too.

Sometime last month I signed myself up for the Baltimore Half Marathon-it is part of the Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival. Ever since I’ve been training for it. Light training, but nonetheless back to training. Light training will soon go into a hardcore half marathon training schedule. I’m really looking foreword to this race though. I talk about it so often that I think everyone is tired of hearing about it. Sucks for all my friends because I saw on the Running Festival site that you can “run for a charity”. I thought that would be a really good thing to do so I looked around at the different charities. The American Red Cross was listed and I was sold. The fundraising goal for the half marathon is $500. I think I am going to do it…so everyone is going to hear more about this half marathon until I reach that goal. Lol.

I remember when I signed up for the CGI Rutgers Half Marathon in 2011. That Half Marathon is the first real race I’ve ever signed up for (well not counting track races in Middle School) and followed through with. It was also the reason that I even started running to begin with. I registered for it, told myself I would train for it and then subsequently found that I enjoyed running. I tell people I’m not a runner but everyone else says I am so there must be some truth to it. There are really only three reasons I like running: I run to stay fit (“counteracting obesity” is my phrase for it), I run to clear my head and I run to achieve certain running goals would be another reason-I do like collecting running medals.

The Baltimore Half Marathon is notorious for being a walking-friendly half marathon too. So I signed Nikki up for it…with her blessing too. Runners World put out a really cool app called “Smart Coach”. You basically put in your goals and how long you have to achieve these goals and the app will develop a running plan for you. We did this for Nikki so she has a “walking plan”. I figured it’s really the same concept, as long as she gets the cardio in she should be fine.
I actually just made the hotel reservation for that weekend a couple of hours ago. We’re going to stay Friday to Sunday at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel. It’s the closest hotel to the start line of the half marathon and also right on inner harbor.
