To my recollection, the closest thing to a hurricane I have experienced in my life time are bad tropical storms that are off the shores of Jersey. I think the winds and rain are bad when we have tropical storms, this hurricane will be much worst. Hurricane Irene is currently a category 2 hurricane, off the coast of the Carolinas at the moment.
Jersey is getting prepared. NJ is in a state of emergency. Evacuations are occurring pretty much everywhere east of Rt 9. Tolls on the Parkway and Expressway At 8pm tonight, the Garden State Parkway will be shutdown going southbound for everything after I98. Atlantic City is even shut down!! Some people say it is overkill but I think that as a state, we are taking all the necessary precautions. Better safe than sorry.
