VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!! To quote MY President Bartlet, "Decisions are made by those who show up."
That said, I VOTED FOR BARACK OBAMA.
On a more thoughtful note, I have to say that I feel like he is officially the first candidate I've voted for, by choice. (I never got to vote for Al Gore, much to my own regret, so John Kerry is the actual first presidential candidate I voted for, but I voted for him because he's a Democrat and he was better than Skippy McDumbass, not because I particularly liked him.) This- today- felt different; it was different. I was proud to pull that little lever for Barack Obama and can I just say that it felt SO DAMN GOOD to be able to vote for a candidate whom I support so strongly? This is what voting should feel like, that you really are pulling a lever for the person you truly want to vote for, not for the lesser of two evils.
Someone at my polling place had a friend with him who was taking pictures of it all, taking pictures of him signing in, pictures of the voting booth, a picture of him inside the voting booth-- because he's new here (by which I mean, new to the country) and this is his first election and he wanted to preserve the moment. It was a nice thing to see, a timely reminder that voting- something we take for granted as a right- is also a privilege, one that many people in many other countries do not have.
While I'm at it, everybody in California, I hope to goodness you're voting no on Prop. 8. (If history repeats itself with this Prop. 8, I'm going to throw a minor fit. I've barely forgiven people for Prop. 22 that passed 8 bloody years ago- and now it's back again.) And hey, President Bartlet says no and that's good enough for me... ;-)
Now to start praying and counting down the hours...
