So, I received a pass to the NYC premier of the Rent movie from school. So Romina and I decided to take advantage of this free movie opportunity and go last night.
It was my first time seeing the Rent "story", the fucking show everyone seems to be obsessed with.
My thoughts?
The movie was good. I bet Rent is really good live and move convincing and everything. But, there is something that just takes away from the story when people just start breaking out in song on camera. Especially that ending with Mimi. What the hell? They totally had me into it, and then boom, they pull that shit they did and I started laughing. I started laughing really loud. The cast was cool though. I totally didn't realize until after the movie that one of the guys is the detecitve from Law and Order. One thing I DID realize, is that Maureen was totally the girl from Wicked.
All the little obsessed Rent people were LOLing to the stupidest shit, just because they remembered it from the show. That was annoying.
So yeah, Rent = good. I want to see the show. Rent the MOVIE = fun, probably really good if you are already familiar with the story, however I don't think it came off that well on film.
