my new wonderful FDA approved medication

so my dermatologist started me on Accutane to control my acne. it's gotten really bad the past year and BCPs, antibiotics, and creams aren't working anymore. the pill worked pretty good for a few years but now i've been breaking out like i used to when i was younger. my doctor recommended Accutane. i can't remember how this medication works on acne, but in theory you use it for a course of five months and it completely clears up your skin. my doctor has used it before so she felt safe in prescribing it for me.

the side effects of this medication can be pretty serious. it messes with your liver, kidneys, cholesterol, and mental state, in some cases (it can cause or worsen depression symptoms). every month i have to have blood tests to monitor all these things. if any of my levels get too high, we have to stop treatment. i'm not too concerned about this because, if it works, it'll be worth it.

also, this medication poses serious risks to unborn fetuses. it can cause physical and internal deformaties. so in addition to other tests, i have to have a pregnancy test every month. before i can even get my prescription filled, i have to go online to this ipledge website and answer questions about the two forms of birth control i'm using. if i have a positive pregnancy test, i have to stop treatment. they're pretty serious about this stuff. my doctor gave me this information book that felt like 5th grade family life all over again lol. it basically tells you how babies are made and what forms of birth control work and how effective they are.

anyway, i signed all the paperwork, swore up and down to use 2 types of birth control, and i got my prescription filled today. i opened up the bag and took a look at the packaging and almost fell on the floor laughing. i just have to share this!

this is the front of the package. i know it's backwards. in case you can't see, that's a picture of a pregnant woman with a red circle-slash through it. oh, but it doesn't end there.

it's on the back of EVERY PILL IN THE BOX. just in case you forget that you can't get pregnant, it reminds you every time you take a dose.

and this is what could happen to your fetus. its head could become misshapen and bad things happen to the internal organs. i'm not saying deformed fetuses are something to laugh at. but the packaging is.
