[There’s a long pause and some hesitant breathing before a teenage boy speaks. Maybe he’s too confused to speak at first. Maybe he knows he’s not supposed to interact with people in other worlds. Maybe he’s just really shy.]

I’m not supposed to be here. I have to get back or I’m going to be in trouble. I’m probably going to be in trouble anyway.

Relax, you're not in trouble...you're just in the City. Okay, that's not exactly a good thing, but.

Oh, that's good! It's usually good for new people to know somebody here.

Well...not exactly. You can't really leave, and sometimes it likes to mess around with us, but overall, it could be worse...unless you wanted to leave.

[Hesitating, because he's not supposed to talk about himself, but the rules seem like they're different here.]

I'm Roxas. The city likes to mess with people? How can a world do that?

The world itself is controlled by this group called the deities, and they like to mess with the people they keep here with these curses...

They're not all bad, and they're not everyday, but they're still a way to play with us. It's not really fair.

Plus, there's something...really, really off about the city. But I can't figure out exactly what yet.

Why can't people just leave if they don't like it? I don't get it.

It's part of the offness of the city. There's no way to leave. People have tried, but they've never succeeded...anybody who leaves here doesn't leave on their own terms. They just get taken away when the city decides they need to leave.

Sometimes they come back, but they can't remember anything...

Sometimes they remember, but usually they don't...

And then sometimes people who are somehow able to leave never come back at all.

That's messed up. People shouldn't have to forget. Memories are important.

It's wrong...it's really wrong, but there's nothing anybody can do about it here.

We can try to fight against what the city wants, but once you leave, if you come back and can't remember...

Well, it's hard to fight back with actual fighting. Trust me on that one, because I've been trying to do that since day one.

But trust me, nobody here likes the deities crap, and we're all very vocal about it. Most we can do for now is try to figure out this city and see if we can find a weak spot to bring it all down...

Well, if someone finds one, I guess I can help with that. I don't think my boss would mind if it meant we could go home.

Loads of people wanna leave. I mean, some people wanna stay, and if you're here long enough there's plenty of reasons to stay, but hey, that'd be awesome!

It's just that I've got things I need to do where I come from. And my best friends aren't here.
