So much for the Melbourne cultural mentality of being better than the rest of the country. Melbourne is obviously crap when it comes to caring about conserving water...

Current dam levels (as at 3 January 2009)

Melbourne: 32.9%

Perth: 35.5%

Brisbane: 45.52%

Sydney: 60.8%

Adelaide: 69%

Hobart: 81.8%

.... oh and water use in Melbourne can't be blamed on industry either. Households use over 60% of Melbourne's water supply, and industry has reduced usage significantly over the last few years.

Sure the government is to blame to a certain extent for not taking action sooner (and still not taking any action that is likely to really help the situation), but in Brisbane their water storage dropped to less than 30% at the end of last year. The government there asked households to make an effort to save water and look what they have achieved. Melburnians need to get off their asses damn it. It makes me mad that people just don't care and would rather just complain about the government not doing enough, rather than actually making a personal effort.

What's more, the Victorian Government initiated a "Target 155" campaign to try and get people to limit their water use to 155L per day (Launched in December 2008) and here is the usage chart:

Average daily water usage for Melbourne 2008-2009. From OWOF website

Plus, it is not just because of concern for future supply for humans, it is destroying the environment in the process, which will have detrimental effects on wildlife, agriculture, tourism, human health, and the list goes on.
