Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Dec 22, 2015 12:20

My non-spoilery impression in a nutshell: Viewed and loved, for all its Star Wars-y flair. Heroes, mentors, planets, droids, and Space Nazis. Yup, everything just as it ought to be.

As someone whose focal point has always been Obi-Wan Kenobi (in both original trilogy and prequels alike), I was somewhat worried whether the new characters would manage to intrigue me. But, hey, they did, with flying colours.

One or two spoilery observations:

Regarding Rey: I've  read a lot of people speculating that she must be related to Luke for various reasons, but the one character she personally reminds me of even more strongly is Padme

Regarding General Hux, leader of the Star Killer Base: While certainly no Admiral Piett, he struck me as being a fine example of an ambitious, opportunistic careerist, so I quite enjoyed this particular embodiment of Evil.
