i just spent 24 hours in the library. for real. got there a little before noon yesterday, left a few minutes after noon today. walking around bobst library at 5 am in your socks is a good feeling. everyone should try it.
so i've been working on this paper for three weeks, right? like, not actually writing it, but trying to figure out a linear train of thought somewhere in the 2342348 abstract deconstructionist french-feminist communist mass-consumption theorist books i unnecessarily read for it. i worked really fucking diligently, too, and planned way further ahead than i ever have and procrastinated way less than i normally do and filled an ENTIRE fucking notebook with notes about stuff that made my head hurt. and it was due today at 5, and i couldn't start writing it until 11 last night. i kind of figured out a vague idea of what i wanted to write about at around 4, maybe 4:30 yesterday.
what happened?
i am a flipping genius. that's what happened. i totally just wrote a respectable 14 page paper about something really interesting and sent it in at exactly 5.
also, i've listened to all of my radiohead albums probably 14 or 15 times in the past day, or whatever this amount of time has been. i'm pretty sure it does something special to your brain waves. i need to find more music like that because i don't want to get sick of it. especially kid a, that would be the worst, because that album is the best ever.
also, i haven't slept in a really really really long time. the last time i did i think i got 5 hours, and the time before that it was 4, and the time before that it was 2. tonight im going to get a good nights sleep, and tomorrow night i will probably not sleep because i have 93275843 drawings to do for monday. and then i have a 15 page paper due wednesday. i totally don't mind. because i totally just wrote a good paper after 3 weeks of thinking i was going to fail the class.
however, here is a short list of words and phrases that i would not like to see for some time:
commodity, value form, natural or physical body/form, subordination, subject, object, semblance, ek-static, specula(riza)tion, ho(m)mo-sexual monopoly, economy of desire, reification, disembodied images, valorization, symbolic order, organization of value, mimesis, metamorphosed in identical sublimations, discourse, performativity, machine aesthetic, super-natural property that comes to constitute the value of the product, mirror, facilitation/circulation of the exchange of commodities, materiality, embody, nonaccess, image, consumer engineering, (standardized) valuable female form, ontological.
yeah. not for a while.
