Lost in a Good Book

Clearly I've been off LJ for rather awhile. We moved. I needed safety and reassurance, so I read a lot of LM Montgomery, specifically Emily of New Moon, Emily Climbs, and Emily's Quest. Emily is LM's other heroine (if you don't know who the other other heroine is, you're probably male or v. v. hip). You can relate to Emily more in some ways - she's not as, uh, blithe as Anne, or as happy and bubbly. She's darker, and she has a Passion to write poetry. I wish I had as much Passion. The story is rather similar to the other story, but LM always knows when to make fun of her heroines and when not to. I always forget, though, that Emily loses her way big time, and I get all caught up with it, and scared I'll lose my way, etc. Still.

Mr. Fforde's second book is fun and as everyone says, he's getting better. Can't wait to read Well of Lost Plots. Frankly, I always loved L-space and I'm glad someone's taking him up on it. Plus, I'm all for more and weirder time travel in my books. Next time, I'd also appreciate some spacial distortions. Mr. Braga - ?

I think I read some other books in there too. Haroun and the Sea of Stories, which I adore - if all Rushdie is as lyrical as that, no wonder he's all famous or something.

Dava Sobel's The Planets is still staring at me from the depths of my bookbag. Why can't I finish it?
