My first post here! Anyway, I got into Toy Soldiers after becoming addicted to irisbleu's Good Omens fic (and gee, that sounds only a little stalker-ish) and then reading her TS Series. I kinda figured I'd better watch the movie, and after a casual couple of months looking for the film, I watched it last week. My reaction was Holy Shit then I read Book of Hours, went Holy Shit again, trawled through the backlog here... and was bitten by a bunny.

So! I bring fic.

Untitled
Pairing: Billy/Joey
Rating: PG (ish)
Summary: Pre- canon, how they met ficlet.

Billy never knew it, but he’d owned Joey’s soul from his very first day at Regis.

Joey’s father had called in the last weeks of his sophomore year, saying maybe it would be safer if Joey stayed at school over summer. Parker’d called him into his office the next day and offered to give Joey extra credit if he’d tutor the freshmen in Italian and math. Joey’d agreed and also signed up to take English Lit over, because shit, if he was gonna be stuck at school all fucking summer, he may as well try and get his grade average up.

Joey had expected to be alone in the double he’d been sharing with Donahue, but then on the day before summer term had started, he’d been called back to Parker’s office and Billy had been standing there, and Jesusbloodyfuck that fucking smirk and even before Parker (with an expression on his face like he was amused by a joke no one else could see) had explained that they’d be sharing a room for the duration of summer term, Joey was lost. Even if it did take him a while to realise it.

Billy wore baggy ripped up singlets over tootight jeans and moved with a swaggering grace that made Joey’s hand itch for his pencil and made him swear when time-and-again his sketches failed to capture it. Billy took in Joey’s earring with a slowsweet smile that made Joey’s breath catch and showed up a week later with a stud, lying point blank to Parker about sneaking into town. Billy had no concept of personal space and was always right there, next to Joey, bumping into Joey, casually touching Joey. Billy had presence and charisma and filled every room he entered, and Joey couldn’t look away.

It wasn’t until he realised how completely the carefully maintained nothing thoughts he entertained while jerking off had been replaced by images of color- changing eyes and the arse in those jeans that Joey understood just how much trouble he was in.

Of course, by then summer was over and the guys were back and even Parker had realised that somehow Billy and Joey had become BillyandJoey, and put them in a triple with Phil in a futile attempt to keep Billy (or both of them) out of trouble. Then the guys were asking since when did Joey get excited over pranks, and since when could anyone let alone a wiseass new guy like Tepper defuse Joey’s temper almost as quick as it built?

It wasn’t until Snuffy (Snuffy off all people!) had questioned Joey that he’d realised several things about Billy that he somehow hadn’t noticed. Like how Billy did have a definite and well defined concept of personal space that somehow didn’t include Joey. Like how Billy seemed to look to Joey for approval when planning pranks. Like how Billy always held Joey’s eyes just a moment too long.

But Joey didn’t have too long to ponder these things, because barely a week later Billy was bribing Phil with a whole bottle of a hundred proof vodka, and before Joey had time to wonder what for, the door was closing behind Phil and Billy was…

…Billy was kissing him, quick and awkward and unsure. And then he pulled away, and backed up, one step, two, like he expected Joey to take a swing at him or something. And Joey had never seen this look on Billy’s face, never seen Billy look so uncertain, all his cocky arrogance gone. Joey had never seen Billy look at anything or anyone like they actually mattered.

It occurred to him that Billy was nervous as fuck.

Billy started babbling (and Billy didn’t babble) and Joey realised that he hadn’t said anything for five minutes (like he could actually breathe over here, let alone think, let alone talk) and Joey realised that he had to do something, and that the best way to shut Billy up was just

like

that…

Billy’s mouth was warm and wet and soft, and he was gripping at Joey’s hips like he wouldn’tcouldn’t let go and when they finally pulled apart to breathe they stayed pressed in close, just because.

Billy never knew it, but he’d owned Joey’s soul from his very first day at Regis. Joey just figured that if Billy needed Joey too, well, then that made it all okay.
