Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians! Who has put you under a spell? Before your eyes Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah was publicly portrayed as crucified.
Only this one thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of Torah (the law), or by hearing with faith?
Are you so foolish? Although you began in the Spirit, are you now being brought to the goal by the flesh?
Did you suffer so many things without a cause -- if indeed it were without a cause?
Therefore, He, the One Who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, is it by works of Torah(Law) or by hearing with faith?
These verses stress the point I have made in the previous chapters. It is nto my our doing of the law in a legalistic matter which will justify us. The bottom line is God knows we are sinful and not able to keep all of the law, therefore he had to send the messiah to become the living law, remember her was put to death and raised? Interesting idea there. The idea is that the law became dead to men when Christ was crucified but when he was raised from the grave, then the law was once again living. So does that mean we have to keep the law again those of you who are gentiles...certainly not. If you skipped over the verse you might miss the meaning...where the law was once carnal, it has now become spritual, where the law was once done in the flesh, it is now kept in the Sprit by faith in messiah. Wow.
Galatians 3:10 For as many as are outside of the works of Torah(law) are under a curse. For it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT CONTINUE TO DO ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE SCROLL OF THE TORAH(law), TO DO THEM."
And in that no one is justified by Torah(law)before God is clear, for, "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH."
But, the Torah(law)is not of faith. On the contrary, "HE WHO DOES THESE THINGS WILL LIVE BY THEM."
Messiah(Christ)redeemed us from the curse pronounced in the Torah(law), having become a curse for us. For it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO IS HUNG ON A TREE."
This occurred, in order that Messiah Yeshua(the Savior Jesus), the blessing of Avraham,(Abraham) might come to the nations, so that we might take the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Here is something many have not thought of before..did you know that Jesus was cursed? What then does it mean he was cursed...cursed in what sense one may ask. Well not cursed in the idea which one conventionally thinks of cursed, but rather cursed that his fortune was not what one may call good. Without understanding this, it does not make sense. He was cursed, because the law required the messiah to bore the sins of both Israel and the nations i.e. gentiles. Therefore the word cursed here means he would take in himself our sins rather one be gentile or jew, messiah still bore the sins. Because he took himself our sins, we can now gain the blessings of Abaraham by faith. Look back to Genesis if your uncertain what those are but when you understand this simple idea, because he took our sins in himself, we now then are blessed by our faith beliving in Messiah.
Brethren, I speak in terms of human affairs: no one sets aside or adds conditions to a man's covenant that has been ratified.
The promises were spoken to Avraham(Abraham)and to his sperm(seed/descendents). He does not say, "AND TO SPERMS," as to many, but He directs to One, "AND TO YOUR SPERM," that is Messiah.
These couple verses are worth commenting on. When you look at these the text makes one question why the use of the word seed would be important. Looking back on Abraham's two sons the idea becomes very clear. Notice the promise of blessing should have fallen on Ismael (whom the muslims claim their right to Israel), because he was the eldest, yet the blessing did not fall on him but a curse. Why is that...it is because of the sign of the covenent. Remember what that was...it was circumsion...wow...let me make this as simple as I can...the reason Ishmael was not blessed was because he was not born of the circumsion...did you catch that? He was not born in the will of God, therefore, he could not inherit the promises of the covenent which Issac could because his father Abraham was circumsized at the time. That is why the muslims have no claim to the promised land of Israel...think about that. It's powerful. Now going onto the new covenent implications, remember it is called a circumsion of the heart and not physical circumsion...wow...when we become circumsized in our hearts, we can claim the promises of the new covenent i.e. justification before God for our sins, redemption from the curse of the law. Isn't that wonderful? Thank you Lord. Read the rest of the chapter to really understand this idea.
What I say is this: the Torah(law), which formally came four hundred thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously established by God, so as to make void the promise.
For if the inheritance is by means of Torah(law), it is no longer depends on a promise. But God freely gave it to Avraham(Abraham) by means of a promise.
Why, then, the Torah(law)? It was added on account of transgressions, having been directed through messengers by the hand of a Mediator(Jesus Christ), until the Sperm(Seed of righteousness i.e. Israel not Judea) would come to Whom the promise had been made.
Now a Mediator involves more than one; and God is one.
Is the Torah(law) then opposed to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a Torah(law) had been given which had the power to make alive, then righteousness would certainly be based on Torah(law).
But the Scripture has shut up all under sin, so that the promise by faith in Yeshua the Messiah(Jesus Christ) might be given to those who believe.
But before this faith came, we were kept in guard under Torah(law), being shut up to the faith, which was later to be revealed.
So the Torah(law) has become our pedagogue(tuitor, instructor, teacher) to lead us(direct) to Messiah, so that we may be declared righteous by faith.
But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a pedagogue(instructor).
For you are all sons of God through faith in Messiah Yeshua(The Savior Jesus).
For all of you who were immersed into Messiah have clothed yourselves with Messiah.
There is neither Yehudi(Jew) nor Greek(Gentile), there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Messiah Yeshua.
And if you belong to Messiah, then you are Avraham's sperm, heirs according to the promise.
