Ignorance Is Blissful Youth

When I am feeling down I always find the best cure is laughing at someone stupid. And earlier I did just that.

Joey was telling me how he saw Ryan Cabrera on TV talking about how many relationships he’d been in and we joked back and forth about how brain dead most 23-year-olds are when it comes to what they think relationships are compared to what real relationships are. I recall at that age thinking a long-term relationship was one that lasted three months.

This made me think of my ex, Wookie Boy. But, not in a ”oh how I miss him” way. More of an, ”oh what a dumb ass” way.

After we’d broken up, I did the usual round of profile updates on the personals like I always did at that time. Because, heaven help me I be single and not on anyone’s radar for 50 seconds. In doing so I had at least done a bit more personal reflection and realized I couldn’t answer their little questionnaire ”yes” when it asked if I’d ever been in an LTR because I realized my flings and six month dating situations were not long-term relationships. I mean, right in the very words itself, ”long-term”. It indicates a substantial amount of time. Not six months. I mean, lets be serious here.

Well, my ex saw this and when we’d gotten back together for our very brief fling (the kind in which you have sex one or two last times before really parting ways) and he told me he was ”upset” with me because I put in my profile I’d never been in an LTR because he thought what he and I had was one.

I explained to him how I felt an LTR was something that lasted a little more than a year at the least. That six months, no matter how passionate, one still had to face the fact it was only six months.

He says to me, ”Oh, I thought LTR stood for Loving, Tender Relationship.”

Complete moron.

dating, relationships, funny
