Uranus Rising

I can’t believe how beautiful it is outside. The weather was absolutely perfect this morning. The kind that can turn a person’s entire morose attitude around. It reminded me again of that "summer" feeling I’ve been lacking. What it feels like to wake up on the day you leave for vacation.

I am quite happy it’s Friday. Granted, I am looking forward to a weekend of laundry as opposed to the offer I had to go with Zoid camping. It was a fun, spontaneous thought but I came up with enough excuses in my own mind to back out of it. One of which is the haircut appointment I finally made for tomorrow morning. Not soon enough. I am tired of this mop on my head. I decided in one fallen swoop to call for the appointment and send that resume off. Enough said about that.

In an impulsively pointless move yesterday I purchased Season 2 of 'Futurama'. Not a wise thing to do for someone that’s about to pay out the ass for Josh Groban concert tickets. I haven’t always been known for my intelligent financial moves. The Killers are also coming to town at the Metro on September 11th. I’ve never been to the Metro and the place for whatever reason intimidates the hell out of me, but I think it’d be a cool reason to go. Tickets for that go on sale tomorrow and I am assuming they’ll be fairly cheap, though I don’t know if you have to purchase them at the box office or if you can do it online. Seeing as my hair appointment is at the exact time they go on sale it looks like I am screwed if they sell out fast.

After seeing Three Days Grace on Fuse the other day I decided to buy their album yesterday as well. I like it so far though I haven’t heard much of it beyond the low volume at my desk here and their two main songs on my headphones; ’I Hate Everything About You’ and ’Just Like You’. Both obviously having just the right amount of angst I prefer in my music. And, they are Canadian which is like the new American.

I also read a blurb on Scissor Sisters in Spin this morning. Rockwell of all people mentioned them to me, and I had only vaguely heard of them but I guess they are getting some airplay locally. Which could be a good, or bad thing. Seeing as one of the members is a homo it almost seems like a Queer Eye trendiness that will doom them. But, he and a couple of his band mates are cute regardless.

For some reason they remind me of Shakespeare’s Sister.

It’s really a rather decent magazine; Spin. Aside from the occasional need they have to make stupid ’Top’ whatever lists, the articles are generally decent and informative. Though I guess I am prejudiced and wish they’d just throw out any need they seem to have to report on stuff in the hip-hop community. It doesn’t really fit with the rest of their genre to begin with, even if you do have those insane tours with a list of six alternative groups and Snoop Dog. Makes no damned sense to me.

My libido does seem to be slightly calmer today though last night it was raging at full speed. It’s really rather discomforting on one level because I really don’t feel like myself at all. I feel like I have tunnel vision and my one and only goal is sex. I’m trying to fight with myself mentally to focus on something else. Anything else.

In the interim I’ll make yet another annoying observation about the personals: People who respond to your ad, but don’t have a picture. Why in this day and age would a person even bother? The most annoying of these kind of people is ’the bargainer’. The one who writes to you without a pic on their ad (or in this guy’s case, he didn’t have a profile at all) and then when you write back a hello and ask for a pic they say something like "Well, if you e-mail me back at such and such address then I’ll see about getting you a picture". Um, how about you fuck off and I get back to not caring.

One of the sites has a most annoying feature where users can rate profiles. And, instead of e-mails of any substantial interest, you’re bombarded with ’guestbook entries’ with the ratings these people have given you. Formerly, it became a game of rating the person back and seeing if they or you would send a real e-mail. Now I just find myself deleting the guestbook notifications all together. If you want to talk to me, have the balls to write so I can blow you off properly.

Yahoo seems to have the most excitable crowd. Seeing as I have never used them before I am the freshest of fresh meat. You’ve got your personals regulars that go through all the sites, and then you have guys that just seem to use one and not even know about the others. They all seem to be the ones e-mailing me on Yahoo. Or should I say, the bulk of them send these ’Icebreakers’.. one word, computer generated messages that provide only a slight ego safety net for people that don’t want to be outright rejected after spending time working on an eloquent e-mail to a person. Of course, most of these Yahoo’s seem to be more relationship oriented. And, my appeal seems to have crossed racial boundaries because most of them have been black. Just a factual observation, no racism there.

Ok, time for me to get back to the internal debate on whether to spend $123 on each ticket for Josh Groban.
