I was just looking through the invites from the last two Halloween parties I had. I'm so witty. Thought I'd copy them here in case Evite or Facebook ever erases them. There's some real wit and creativity in these little blurbs that I wonder if anyone appreciated.
10/27/07 - It's a Dead Man's Party - Location: The Apartment for the Criminally Insane
One-hundred and twenty years ago a group of clowns was maliciously slaughtered on the very site of my apartment building. Their various dismembered body parts, some that honked and others that were over-sized, were placed in the ancient Indian burial ground under my kitchen floor.. before it was my kitchen that is, because it was actually the laboratory where fiendish experiments were carried out on psychotic mental patients. Not much has changed since then.
So enter if you dare, for an evening of creepy cocktails, snacks prepared by the exhumed corpse of Julia Child and the terrifying wailing of long outdated music. Come early or late... stop by for a drink and a hello... stay all night. Bring a friend. Come alone. Leave your body and soul at the door.
Costumes are highly suggested.
10/24/09 - The House Party of Frankenstein - Location: The apartment of the incredibly strange creatures that stopped living & became mixed-up zombies
It came from outer space by way of the Black Lagoon and It's looking to party. The Thing insists I throw a costume party or it will summon Them! to come and suck out my brains. I hope to hear you gently rapping; faintly tap-tapping at my chamber door Saturday the 24th so we can party until dawn of the dead. Otherwise I'll be worm feast for the Mole People or compost for some Triffid.
So come up to the lab, and see what's on the s...lab! There will be drinks, snacks, ghoulish decor, music and plenty of fun. Feel free to bring friends; dead or recently reanimated. Costumes are urged... there may be embarrassing props supplied to those without.
Last year's invite was obviously heavily influenced by all the classic Universal monster movies and 50's Sci-Fi/Horror I'd been spooning down in the months before. Too much fun.
I had been childishly depressed by the fact I would be physically unable to pull of the Spartacus costume. But, I think I've come up with a suitable replacement. And yes, I am 35 years old.
