I used to love watching HGTV... six or more years ago. But, the entire channel now is geared toward the one snippet of society I despise more than any other. The type of people infesting my neighborhood here. White, upper middle class yuppies who think value comes from spending exorbitant amounts of money to make sure you have all the things your neighbors have, and then one more to try and be "better" than them. Makes me sick to my fucking stomach.
What's even more ridiculous about these shows, aside from the endless budgets that just set the bar even higher for all the yuppies at home to try and keep up, the fact that these people don't DO any of the work. They hire designers and carpenters and drywallers and painters... and never lift a fucking finger. And then when it's all done, they act as if THEY somehow contributed to the effort. YOU DIDN'T DO SHIT!!!! And then they flash it all around on TV and gloat to their neighbors... but they never did anything!!!!!!!!! It's ludicrous!!!!!
When I was growing up, any and all work at the house I grew up in was done by my parents. The only projects I can think of they did not do were ones requiring real professionals and man-power, like putting on a new roof or siding the whole house. My dad worked 12+ hour days five days a week, got home after six at night, ate and fell asleep on the chair watching TV within a few hours. Then on the weekends, he had a list... and there was not a weekend he was not working on something except if there was a wedding or a funeral.
It disgusts me to hear these whining breeder fucks, talking about how "hard" it is with the kids they CHOSE to have, to make time for home improvement. BULLSHIT! My dad worked, my mom eventually worked when I was still in grade school. They busted their asses every fucking weekend working on their house. And in a house that didn't have one goddamned bathroom for every fucking bedroom. Fucks today act like they're in a third world country if there are less than four bathrooms in a fucking house.
Am I going crazy here, or do other people see how completely off-balance things are now? It makes no sense. The gluttony and excess of our society is built on this idea that the surface aesthetic is somehow the only important thing. The hard work isn't important. Living within a budget isn't important. It's all about fucking property values and apparently investing in some future in which people plan on owning six or seven houses in a lifetime. Hell, these people are buying NEW houses when they still haven't sold their old ones... then they come to HGTV and whine for help from fuckers that show up and "stage" because apparently morons who buy houses these days are unable to use their imagination and envision what a house might look like with furniture... they need to see furniture IN it. It's like everyone is an idiot.
I can't enjoy any of the shows anymore because they have nothing to do with reality, and certainly not the life I live or how I grew up. Any shows they had that did speak to that part of me were canceled.
