Politicians piss me off, as well as religious evangelists. I've been watching this debate over Terri Shiavo for a while and every day I become more disappointed. This woman needs a feeding tube, a ventilator, and countless amounts of IV fluids inside of her to keep her alive. By all accounts, this woman is dead, and has been for 15 years. I can't even imagine what kind of hell it must be to go through 15 years of living like that, and her parents want to keep that going just because they can't stand to lose her. It pisses me off that they preach religious reasons for keeping her alive when it would be the most humane thing in the world to allow her death, given the circumstances. Even worse, removing her feeding tube and putting it back in every time some judge or self-important politician decide they want to make a statement only prolongs the pain everyone is going to feel. These people need to make a fucking decision.
However, I also disagree with the way they want to kill her. Removing her feeding tube and letting her suffer an extra two weeks without food is an awful way of killing someone, especially a loved one. I don't understand how her husband, who loves her enough to actually allow her death, would allow it in such a horrible way. Just put something in her IV, don't let her stay alive two extra weeks while another fucking politician decides that they want to put the tube back in.
It makes no sense for her parents, who love her, to disallow her death. This woman can't do anything on her own. She can't eat, drink, talk, and the only movement she has is because of muscle reflex. Again, these people need to make a fucking decision.
