CHARACTER NAME: Jessica Hamby
SERIES:
TB wikiaCANON POINT: End of Season Four
AGE: Eighteen (17 as human, 1 as vampire)
APPEARANCE:
Debra Ann Woll PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: n/a
PERSONALITY:
Jess came from a middle class Christian family that suffocated her. Her father physically abused her and due to her Christian upbringing, she was very stifled.
This only made her attitude flair when she was made into a vampire at the age of seventeen. Having been kidnapped, she was made by Bill Compton as a punishment. He did not choose this, she did not choose it. It was forced on them both, but it opened up her world. When we first see her as a vampire, she's more excited about it than anything exclaiming that it meant no more rules or being lady like or Jesus or the abuse from her father.
Which is why she was so difficult the first few months of her infancy. Jessica didn't listen to Bill because she wanted to be bad. She wanted to kill people. Having been so stifled and then suddenly released made her act out.
However she started to calm after she nearly massacred her family. Bill started to teach her how to be a vampire, about the impulses. Though he was against drinking human blood. He made her live off of Tru Blood which according to her is gross.
Being seperated from her old life was hard at first, but when she'd learned how much she'd hurt them, Jess took to her new life in Bon Temps. She started going out and even had a boy friend.
But who she was started to clash with what he thought. She is a young vampire who wants to kill. It's only when she accidentally does that we see another side to her. One that is frightened of what she is. It's a constant battle. In a minisode when a pastor tries to talk down to her for who she is, she doesn't back down though. Jessica knows what it means. But she also tells him that he should be thankful that he isn't what she is, that he doesn't have to crack open someone's neck to feed.
She does show remorse for the trucker she killed, but in her own way. She tries to hide the body, but it ends up sitting for awhile. She sees the picture of his family and realizes just what her actions cause. Bill never taught her how to drain a human though.
When her and Hoyt get back together, she tells him this was who she was. An eternal virgin who craves carnage. She wants human blood; the synthetic blood just isn't enough. But she doesn't go on any sort of rampage until a werewolf pack is unleashed on her. She tells Hoyt that it isn't going to stop. She needs human blood.
She is sweet though. She doesn't want to be known as a monster. The prejudice that Arlene, a coworker, shows her grates on her. She tells Tommy, another coworker, that she isn't good enough for Hoyt. She fully knows what she is capable of, but she won't stand for any mistreatment. There is a sense of pride there.
She hates feeling hopeless. As a human, she often felt this way due to the abuse at the hands of her father and their right wing attitude. Being turned opened a whole new world to her, and she thinks it is the best thing that ever happened to her. She understands the ramifications of it. She has to repress a lot of who she is, the carnage she so craves. But she's not willing to hide who she is. She told Hoyt if they got back together that she would drink human blood. She's constantly on the edge of a sword in that regard.
Part of the lack of control growing up is also why she likes glamouring people. She first learns how to in Dallas and she gets a man to give her his cell phone. In a minisode instead of massacreing the pastor, she tells him to go home, but before he leaves to scream that he's a pervert for Jesus. It's part of the little quirks about her.
She is fun, though a lot of that is the impulses. Jessica does try and control them, but she does know they get the better of her. She glamoured a woman at the bar she works at to go into the bathroom so she could feed on her. But it's simply who she is.
What you see is what you get. Even though she tries to repress the darker parts of her, she is very much the person one sees. Probably because she is so impulsive. She's also not the smartest and can lose interest in something if it isn't directly involved with sex or carnage.
Part of the impulsiveness is her emotions. She's very emotional, probably the vampire who cries the most in the series. She's quick to anger, but she does care deeply. When she sees her exboyfriend being attacked, Jessica simply flings the beast off of him and lets Hoyt drink her blood.
She's impulsive, emotional, and very dangerous, but she is aware of all these things. But she's practically putty in someone's hands. Her Maker didn't really teach her well in the beginning, but she does live a fairly normal life albeit at night. It is something she wants, constantly comparing herself to human girls (though she states she's technically not even a girl). Without a constant control over herself she's liabel to become something dark - hence how she killed the trucker and killed a few werewolves that were sent after her.
It's really due in part to the people around her. When Sookie went missing, she lived with Hoyt for that year. She knew she had a strong enough support system. Things didn't fall a part because she had something in place. She needs that stability.
ABILITIES:
Vampires in the world of True Blood work slightly different. As such, these are what she can and cannot do:
Superstrength/ Superspeed
The older a vampire is, the more powerful they are. She also moves fast, often appearing as a blur to humans.
Healing
Vampires have the ability to regenerate after being injured. They need human blood for this to work though. It's why they feed on them. Also sleeping in the ground for a day can restore a vampire back to full form.
Blood Properties
Vampire blood, also called V, is used as a drug. It has hallucinagenic properties, but each experience varies from person to person. A vampire's age is proportional to how strong the blood is. It also cures a person who is moments from death if drank in larger quantities. They do not want this getting out as the medical community does not know.
Senses
Vampires have exceptional hearing, sight, and smell. The older a vampire is the more blood they can sense. It does not affect them per se though, since they does not let himself be driven by it like a younger vampire. Jessica is younger and this is a big part of who she is, the constant struggle of when to feed and how much. However fangs can be popped, most notably when she feeds.
The senses also bleed into the bond that a Maker and Childe have. Bill is Jessica's Maker and she can feel and sense him and his whereabouts.
There are also similar effects when a human drinks directly from a vampire. The vampire becomes aware of their emotions. The human may also become stronger. Their senses are heightened. There is also a physical attraction that is developed where the human will start to have erotic dreams about the vampire.
Weaknesses
Silver. It burns them and continues to burn them. Beheading is another way to kill one. Sunlight is one of the most known and common ways to kill or harm a vampire. They sleep during the day for this reason (if they don't, they become sick and start bleeding out the ears and nose - called 'the bleeds'), away from any light and preferably in the ground. They must sleep otherwise they can become sick and internally bleed which comes out any oriface.
POSSESSIONS: A yellow sundress.

JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE:
[She's blinking. This was definitely not Bon Temps. This wasn't even close. And what was worse was she needed to feed. But in a place like this? The humans well... they didn't see too keen on the idea. Jessica awkwardly smiled and pulled a long strand of red hair back.]
So, I got this problem, see. I sort'a need somethin' to live, and it ain't really available here, not like home. Well it is, but... I just really need it. [Her eyes go wide for a moment, the idea of blood possessing her. She has to calm herself.]
I ain't exactly sure how to go about it, and in all honesty, I hate it. But it's who I am. Things are just different here, all y'all's worlds are so different. [She looks down for a moment. She'd probably think most of the people out there were lucky. They didn't have to rip someone's throat open to feed. Jess visably cringes.]
I ain't been here long, so some of ya might not even know me. I'm Jessica. [She leaves out the vampire part for now. She gets enough judgement for that back home and people know about vampires. It wasn't that she wasn't going to admit what she was, but this wasn't like one of those meetings where you stood up, announced your name and what you were.]
Guess this was sort'a pointless.
