My review of the new novel
It's Superman has been published on SciFiDimensions.com. Check it out.
This got me to thinking. What if a "A-picture" of Superman were
done in 1941; when Superman was everywhere: in comic books, the
funnies, and on radio. Who would play the parts? Here are
some of my suggestions. Who would you cast?
Clark Kent / Superman :
Jimmy Stewart.
He would be a perfect Clark. The
corn-fed homieness. The laid back style. They would have to
work on the costume a bit to make him a believable Superman.
Lois Lane:
Jean Arthur
You'd have to dye her hair, but what better big-city
reported could there be? Going for a different style,
Myrna Loy would be good.
Perry White:
Orson Welles
OK. So Perry White is no Charles Foster Kane, but really wouldn't Welles be great in the role?
Jimmy Olsen:
Mickey Rooney.
He would have the youthful energy for the part.
Ma Kent:
Marjorie Main.
Typecasting, I know.
Pa Kent:
Thomas Mitchell.
A wonderful character actor best known as Scarlett O'Hara's father.
Lex Luthor:
Sidney Greenstreet
A fine villain. He would make a fine Luthor.
