Hank Reinhardt is recovering from quintuple bypass

Oct 02, 2007 10:52

This is news is from Gerald W. Page who is in contact with Toni, Hank's wife:

From Oct 1st:
Some of the people receiving this may not be aware of the full story, so let me fill you in. If you saw Hank Reinhardt at Dragoncon you probably noted that he did not look well. He was suffering from an allergic reaction to medication, resulting in fluid on the lungs. When his doctor checked him over he thought Hank was suffering with heart congestion as well and ordered a catheterization. He detected extensive blockage of the arteries very near the heart and scheduled Hank for a quintuple bypass.
The surgery was this morning. I talked to Hank Saturday and his big concern was that he was actually expected to get up before 5 AM. to get to the hospital. I just received a call from Toni about 15 minutes ago and she informed me that the operation had been performed, and the surgeon assured  her it was successful.
Hank is in the Athens Regional Medical Center, recuperating and dreaming of Viking raids on unsuspecting coastal villages, even as I write this e-mail. He and Toni will probably be out of touch for a while. Please think kind thoughts of the old warrior.

From Oct 2nd:

Heard from Hank's wife, Toni, this morning and she tells me that Hank is awake. The tubes were removed about 3 AM and he's talking. I wasn't aware it was possible to keep Hank from talking. She says he's spoiling for a Scrabble game but she thinks it's too soon. They are considering a game of tic tac toe on his incisions.
From Hank and Toni, thanks to everyone for the kind well wishes. I thank you too.
