But what she doesn't know is that the thing that keeps him up that night? The thing that makes him wish she was sleeping beside him; curled up towards his chest?
Wasn't the way she pushed at him after they kissed. He gets that. She's scared. She has every right to be.
Heck, he's scared to death too.
But none of that really matters, does it? Because what gets him is this:
You're the one who needs protecting.
The words wrap themselves around his heart and squeezes it like they don't understand the concept of letting go.
No.
He doesn't need protection.
What he needs is to, forever, be able to love her (and for her, to love him the way he knows she does).
The hurt? Sure, it'll come and be a little more blistering than usual. But there's not a doubt in his mind, that's she worth it.
And the fact that she doesn't get that?
That's what really breaks his heart.
