So I guess it’s time for oddities of the human race. For my senior sem class we had to complete a series of case studies, the, last one being on Time Warner. The previous case studies were from our textbook and the organization’s problems were somewhat apparent. The Time Warner case study was research based, meaning we had to research the organization and determine the main problem of the organization and divulged it in a one page statement.
Easy enough, right? So I get home from working my last shift at Whole Foods and in my e-mail I find a gem of a problem statement, with another e-mail from my wonderful group member Frances saying that she got the problem statement and she didn’t know what to do with it. At this point, I knew I was in trouble. This is what the problem statement said:
Time Warner is a very strong company. They have so many good things with their company. One big problem that they had within the company is the fact that they were not able to compliment all their users through AIM. A lot of people were requesting and email through AIM and felt that it would make their life a lot easier. They feel that their customers said that they were not able to access all that they needed through the free aim service.
In March 2005, they decided to actually make the email program but they were having a lot of trouble deciding what program they were going to use for it. The reason they were having trouble finding out what to use for it was because they were not able to find a good program to fit their needs. People within the company felt that some of the programs they were trying to use made downloading and attaching files hard.
On May 11th 2005 they have just decided to begin beta testing AOL mail. This will be good for now for them to decide if this is going to work out. This is a free email service that will be helpful and useful to users. They are going to begin to do it so look for it in the months to come.
This is a good thing for the company but they have to worry about it failing. If people do not like the email service they have to worry about customers not using it. If that happens than they would have wasted a lot of money for something that they will not feel is worth it.
So if you need a good email service, you should check out the new one coming out.
Your initial reaction is probably much the same as mine: WTF. This is a senior level college course. Our case study was due at 8 am Monday morning. Frances received this at 9:30 pm Sunday night. We always requested for the previous case studies that all work would be e-mailed to Frances or me by midnight on Saturday night (which gave enough time for us to fix the work enough to be turned in on Monday morning) Personally, I cannot figure out what is worse, the fact that a free e-mail service is Time Warner’s biggest problem, or the sever lack of citations throughout the entire document.
At this time I would like to thank Frances for her patience in working with me in fixing all of these documents we got sent this trimester, it was a wild ride.
I would also like to thank Natalie for keeping me sane when things like this happened.
I would also like to thank Jim Beam, for obvious reasons.
It is also important to note that the student that wrote this “Should not have been in [this] class” according to Lee A. Esckilsen, CFE, our professor.
Thank God that this term is almost over…
Peace
