Fighting Versus Grass! Stat conditions and high defense vs speed and high attack!

Here's the breakdown of the Fighting versus Grass battle! It was a couple days ago so some of the details are fuzzy. Here we go:

I sent out Tangrowth first and he sent out Poliwrath out. Tangrowth was holding a Heat Rock. Tangrowth used Sunny Day. Poliwrath used to Dynamic Punch but it missed.
That defined the entire battle.
With Solarbeam I knocked out Poliwrath. Heracross was sent out and he used Close Combat. It did barely anything. Later my boyfriend complained about the level 50 rule because Heracross doesn't learn Mega Horn until AFTER 50. :/ I knocked out Heracross.
He sent out Machamp. Machamp had the ability that made all of his moves 100% accurate. So he used Toxic on my Tangrowth. And that eventually knocked it out.
I sent out Breloom next. He was holding a Toxic Orb because of his ability.  I knocked out his third Pokemon.
Breloom gets knocked out and then I sent out Venusaur. Venusaur's part poison type really helped out. Venusaur took out the rest of his team with Sleep Powder, Synthesis, Petal Dance, and Sludge Bomb. She was also holding Leftovers. Being part poison was probably the only reason she beat Toxicroak.
I won, with 3 Pokemon never seeing battle. Honestly I was surprised. I never even used Exeggutor. We agreed that the biggest issue my boyfriend's team had was defense stats. I had great defense stats (Tangrowth and Venusaur) taking hits and all of his Pokemon were Attack stat heavy.

Next up Water team versus Dark team. (I'm the one with the dark team >3) Stay Tuned! And if you have any thoughts about the battle I described or the one coming up, go ahead and leave a comment!
