Poliwrath: The Forgotten Water Type

Aug 10, 2010 16:13

I've decided to start off with what I know. I love using Pokemon that aren't normally used and finding that hidden potential that no one else bothers to look for. It brings joy and victory  when I battle because people don't usually anticipate the teams I build. I'm not bragging or anything I just like being creative with my Pokemon teams. I'm so tired of the same old stuff. So,every once in awhile, I will post about a Pokemon and share with the world just how awesome they can be.

First up is Tessa, my Poliwrath.
I decided to use her when I was playing SoulSilver. I chose Chikorita for my starter and so I knew, somewhere down the road, I'd need a water Pokemon. I didn't want to wait too long so as soon as I acquired a fishing rod I went for it. My only options were Magikarp and Poliwag. I've used Gyrados before and, frankly, I'm bored of it. So why not Poliwag? It would eventually be part fighting and I LOVE duel types.
I'm so glad I chose Poliwag and stuck to it. Not only was Tessa one of the quickest Pokemon on my team (second only to my electric type) but her physical attack stat was killer.

Tessa soon became the sweeper of my team. I was so pleasantly surprised when I realized how well she could take a hit (unlike any Gyrados I've ever used). Even with a Hasty nature (-10% to Defense stat) it's solid.

At level 54, Tessa's stats are as such:
Attack 114
Defense 111
Sp. Attack 93
Sp. Def. 108
Speed 122

With a strong fighting attack, a physical water attack, hypnosis and body slam, this Poliwrath has no trouble taking people down. Unless, of course, it's up against an electric type. But that's fine because I didn't raise a water type expecting it to take on it's weakness ;)
I highly recommend using a Poliwrath if you're looking for something new in the water type department.

Next time! The most ignored Eevee Evolution! And why it shouldn't be ignored!
