Politics-schmolitics

I can't take it any longer! I really think I may not stop listening to news until after November 4.

As a liberal who long ago knew I was voting for Barack Obama, I wasn't that concerned about VP choices. While the Republican choice of Sarah Palin surprised me, I was ready to entirely ignore it. Until I heard her speech during the announcement, saying that she is picking up where Hillary Clinton left off with breaking the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling...

Seriously? I don't want to vote for someone BECAUSE they're a woman! I want to vote for someone because they represent my beliefs. The "Hillary supporters for McCain" have already given me heartburn, because I just can't grasp why someone would go against their core beliefs to spite a party. If you're so mad, vote for the Green Party. Run yourself. Or even don't vote. Why vote for someone who doesn't actually represent your interests?

Experience aside, this choice feels like pandering on the most base, sexist level. I think the Samm Bee with Daily Show said it best:

And now we're being baited by the media even more. Instead of getting to learn about Sarah Palin's views and goals as VP, we are hearing about her pregnant and drinking 17 year old daughter. This has LITTLE to do with politics, and Obama himself asked to keep this off-limits. Perhaps it could be from the playbook from Karl Rove, but I truly think we are smarter as Americans now. We want to hear about experience, not how Palin has instilled her "family values" upon her children. I implore you to search out this information instead of buying into the hype!
