RPG experience: Good lord… Lets see… Been playing in the local vamparie-LARP for 6 years now. We are using the setting and rules from White Wolf’s Vampire the Masquerade. Then I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons Advanced 3.5 for… I think 4 or 5 years? Hubby thought me and is a DM. I have also played quite a bit on LJ, the characters I have played earlier are from the Buffy-fandom: Drusilla, Professor Walsh, Faith LeHane and Xander Harris. Also played a game as Joxer the Mighty, although it didn’t last since I sadly didn’t have time for it. I am at the moment also involved in the game Raise The Colors on Greatest Journal, playing Bootstrap Bill there to.
Timezone: From Sweden, so… ;-)
If this RP continues on after the summer months, will you still be available?: Yes, with a small break for visits to my mother. :-)

Hoist Your Colors
Character Name: William Turner
Character Nickname: Bootstrap Bill
Country of Origin: England
Age: Hard to say… Around his 40s - 50s perhaps?
Birthdate: See above. I see him as having his birthday during the winter-months though.
Country of Loyalty: England, if he had to pick.
Rank and Standing: Bottom of the pecking order on the Dutchman.
Occupation: Crewmember and occasionally gunner on the Dutchman.
Ship: The Dutchman under Jones.

Appearance
Common Items Carried: His small hat, and his boots. His knife that he always used to have with him, he gave to William.
Appearance: If Bill didn’t hunch a bit, he would be quite tall. When he walks, he takes quite long steps, with a hardly noticeable limp. Probably from the shackles that held him to the canon under the water. There are some scars left from the shackles on his lower legs, from his struggles to get lose. On his back there are quite a few scars to, old from his time on the ship /Estelle/ and also newer once.

His eyes are quite sad, and he doesn’t laugh often. Odd thing with his face is, that he has no eyebrows really. His eyes are grey-blue. One wouldn’t call him handsome, but perhaps a rough rugged look, under those barnacles. His face, hands and arms are quite weather-beaten from his long years at sea.

He usally wears a long coat, and a small hat. And of course, his boots with the infamous bootstraps.
Hair: See above
Eyes: See above
Weight: See above
Height: See above

PB:  Would be Stellan Skarsgård then, but my description cowers quite a bit, me thinks.

Personality, Personality
Personality: A sad guy, might even call him a bit depressed. To give an example from the animal-world, he’d be the lowest ranking wolf in a wolf pack…
Specialty: A good gunner, more of a defensive fighter, then offensive.
Quirks/oddities (optional): Cowered with barnacles, does that count?
Enemies: Jones? Hmm… Beckett? Barbossa?
Relationships: None, a widower.
Sexuality: Straight.

Dead Men Tell No Tales
Family: A brother he hasn’t seen since he was a child somewhere in England (if he is still alive). A wife, that he left, now dead. His son, William.
Brief Backstory: 300+ words please.

History of William “Bootstrap Bill” Turner

Born to a fisherman in Bristol, young William Turner grew up early with a love for the sea. Being the second son, there was no chance he would inherit the small fisher-boat his father owned. That one would go to his brother. Both of the Turner-boys were frequently seen running around in the harbour listening to stories about adventure, hero's and pirates from the old sailors there, when they were not helping there father.

When William was only 12, and his brother 15, he ran away from home, to see all those places and find the adventures the old sailors had told about. He was soon found by a few crew members of the ship /Estelle/, and got "hired" as a cabin-boy. /Estelle/ was an honest merchant ship, but her Captain was somewhat cruel, teaching William many a hard lessons. During his time on /Estelle/ he was called Billy-boy. A name that later stuck.

After three years on /Estelle/, Bill ran off. He was lucky, and the crew let him be. A hard life he had on /Estelle/, but he had learnt much to, and was now a good sailor, if somewhat young. He didn't return to the big city of Bristol where he had grown up, though, but settled somewhat in Plymouth. Working at the docks there, he soon became bored, looking for a ship that needed an extra hand. Still being young, it was not an easy task, but he soon found hire at the ship /Victoria/, a merchant ship, or so Bill thought, with a good Captain. It soon proved that she was a rum-runner. Bill now hoped he would find the freedom he had missed on /Estelle/ where the rules had been hard, and the Captains and the boatswains hands heavy. And although the crew was good, as the Captain, no such thing. He did enjoy his time on /Victoria/, though, and he would have stayed an her, had faith not played a part.

In a storm /Victoria/ lost much of her supplies, making her port in Tortuga, the closest port at the time. The /Victoria/ needed some serious repairs, Young Bill jumped ship there, deciding to try his luck to find another ship who needed an extra hand. And he did find one. The /Storm Chaser/ a small and fast ship. He stayed on the /Storm Chaser/ for quite some time, learning more, adding the skill of a gunner to his other skills.

On one of his shore-leaves in Brighton he meet a girl, Catharine Wren. And as these things usually happen, he fell in love. She fell for him to and waited for him, every time he returned. This went on for quite some time. No foolish girl, she knew it was a sailor bitten by the sea she had fallen for. And indeed Bill was. But when it proved that Sarah was pregnant, Bill decided to make a try to stay on land and married her. Got an honest job to.

Working in the docks of Brighton he saw his son William being born, getting the same name as him, Catharine’s idea. “When you leave,” she said, “I will still have a William with me.”

Three years, Bill stayed on land, before the pull and fever for the sea bit him again. It lead to arguments and some fights between Catharine and him, until she simply told him to go and if he decided to return, they would still be there, she and William. And Bill did return. He got hire on a ship called the /Dawn/, an honest merchant ship. Bill decided to make a try to keep on the good and narrow. Much of what he earned, he sent back to Catharine and William, and as soon as he could he came to visit them.

But the loss of freedom it brought, didn’t sit well with Bill, and he jumped ship in the Caribbean, deciding to seek his fortune there. He got hired on the ship the /Hawk/, a pirate ship and a rum-runner. Run by a good Captain, Bill felt right at home. He enjoyed his time on the /Hawk/, finally feeling some of the freedom he had missed. The letters and gifts to England he still sent as soon as he reached a port where it was possible.

But the seas of the Caribbean were far from safe, though be it from pirates if your honest or from the navy be you not, the /Hawk/ was unlucky enough to, on one of her trips, to run into one of the navy ships there. Barely making it to the closest harbour, it happened to be Tortuga…. The /Hawk/ was not to sail again, or at least in a looong time, the crew parted on good terms with high praise from there Captain. (It was on the /Hawk/ he got his nickname Bootstrap Bill since he "found" a pair of boots he fell for, with long bootstraps on them….)

In Tortuga Bill meet Captain Jack Sparrow, and got hired into his crew on the /Black Pearl/. He soon fell for the Captain, finding him to be a very good man, despite (or perhaps because?) he was a pirate, and stayed true to him, even during the mutiny by Barbossa. Since the entire crew, except him seemed to be on Barbossa’s side, it wasn't much Bill could do. Spending the cursed gold like the rest, he to soon noted the not so nice side-effects. Serves them right, Bill thought and sent one of the coins back to Catharine for her to keep hidden, buried or what ever she could think off… He couldn't imagine her giving it to his son. Still speaking against the mutiny against Jack, Barbossa finally had it, and threw him overboard with a canon strapped with shackles at his bootstraps, or…. Legs. Also, very neatly tied up.

Stuck in the sea with the crushing weight of the water around him, but still unable to die, Bill was almost driven mad since he couldn't escape and couldn't die. After a time, the /Dutchman/ happened upon him, and eager to escape to whatever cost, Bill agreed to Davy Jones’ terms.

It happened to be Bill that got sent to Jack to deliver Jones message. Not a task he enjoyed, since he still kept his time at the Black Pearl under Jack in good memory. From Jack though, he found his first news about his son William for years.

When Will turned up on the Dutchman it was a shock to Bill. Not having seen his son for so many years, he still recognized Will's eyes, Catharine’s eyes, that he’d seen so many times in his dreams, and he understood that his wife must be dead.

Himself he didn't care about. He knew he had failed Will and Catharine, and that he was a sailor bound to die at sea. Whenever that would happen, since he also got bound for eternity to the /Dutchman/ and Jones after losing a certain game of Liars Dice…

After helping William escape, his son's words surprised him. Despite the bad treatment he had given his son, he hadn't given up on him. Strange that. Seeing what he thought was the end of his son when the Kraken destroyed the ship helping him, Bill soon turned apathetic and not caring about himself any longer. It was easy for the /Dutchman/ to take over then, and he got stuck in the wall in the brig, only to have confusing walks around deck at times, half-mad at that….

Samples.

Third person RP sample: (more comfortable with this)

Bill looked around, confused. The brig again? When had he walked here? He couldn’t remember… A moment lost. An hour? He scratched his chin, by the starfish… He was supposed to be here, wasn’t he? He thought. Yes, so it was. Captain’s orders. And he was part of the crew, part of the ship. Wandering out of the brig, and up the stairs, he noted they were above water. Had they attacked another ship? Looking around, he saw no strange faces, just the familiar once. Maccos. Clanker. The Twins. Seeing how Wheelback struggled with a rope, Bill walked over to help him, but did not get a thank you. If Wheelback is here, then… Looking up towards the helm, he saw Captain Jones with a determined glint in his eyes. New orders? Could be…

Journal/first person sample: (less comfortable with this)

Jack… I know now why I stood up for him. It didn’t do me no good. It damned me. Unlike Barbossa, he has a love for it. Heart in it. Funny… Not many pirates do. Always up to adventure, always clever. It didn’t help him. Not against Jones. Or the Dutchman. I can feel her still. Her pull… Can’t describe it. She wouldn’t let me leave, I know it. Unless Jones said I could go. And he won’t. An eternity here… Will I lose myself? Like Wyvern? Maybe... I have nothing left, so what does it matter really?

Have you read the rules?: Yes, one of the first things I did.

NOTICE: Please be aware that you will have to make a journal (or give us a link to an existing one, should that be the case) for your character once he or she is approved.  That would be this one
billbootstrap.

Why is this necessary, you ask?  Well, duh. To have a journal to play with, of course!

Well, we the mods are requiring you to re-post your applications on your characters' profile page.  We will collect all the urls for said profiles, and put them in the character index in case any player needs to reference them, for whatever reason.  Also, they're simply fun to read.  :B

There will be a link on this journals userinfo to the application. I hope this is sufficient.
