I had a quiet weekend, and for some reason, I felt I should take it off the internet, so I did. It was a bit difficult to get up, the slack fairy blackjackin' me hard all day, but I won out and actually left the house both days. Saturday saw me walkin' around but eventually only buying some goceries. It seemed "Directionless" was the word for the day.

Sunday saw the return of the dread Slack Fairy, but this time I did more than just waste time. I went out and dropped off bill payments and grabbed some movies. But the rounds I made seemed more like a nature walk than a real chore. I left home around 2pm, and started for bill-paying locations. It was cold enough to wear my jacket, but only just barely, and there was a constant light wind blowing. The almost "apocalyptic" sun was angling in low and not-so-bright, and it really set me at ease, and I could almost imagine that the world was several millions of years in the future, and the sun was fading it's last light upon an ancient human civilization, dwindling lazily towards the end of existance in a peaceful, elderly age of reason and peace...

At least until the Avalanche drives by blaring out some pop tune and returns me to the tarded present.

I stopped outside the phone co and sat at some tables set under a pecan tree. It just felt like it was necessary at the time to sit down, even though I wasn't tired. I took in the weak winter sun, smelled the smells on the breeze, and just relaxed. A pecan caught my eye, and I cracked it on the table and ate it. It was quite good. I consumed about 8 more, and watched a tiny woodpecker working at something in a rotten branch. I got up and walked on.

Passing down the sidewalks and roads, I found pecans everywhere. The trees are all over Statesboro, you see. So I took the opportunity and snatched up pecan after pecan off the ground and cracked them with the brass clip on my keychain. Some weren't so good, but as I walked about a mile and half through town, I probably downed a dozen or twenty pecans that were mighty tasty. And mighty free. Shelled pecans are kind of pricey bought in stores, y'know.

After getting the movies, (T3, Spriggan, and Small Soldiers, if you must know... I was on a sci-fi kick last night) I saw more pecan trees, many with the nuts still on the branches. I walked on towards home and simply plucked them right off the branches as I walked. All in all, I got about a pound or so of fresh pecans, unsullied by anything but my own filthy little hands. (well, not so filthy, really.)

Really, it was a nice, quiet weekend. With yummy pecans.
