Drove home drunk tonight. It was amusing. Oh, don't worry. Obeyed every traffic light, watched my speed limit, keep my driving smooth and straight. I am always the careful drunk. The lines on the road seemed sharper, the headlights of the few other cars were brighter, the road itself surreal in clarity. Kind of like I had a niche I had just newly discovered. Don't worry, I don't plan to trod on Death's toes regularly. There wasn't much traffic out there at 2am anyway. Quite lonely. It was profound, and so I drove a longer way home just to enjoy it.
The solitude reminded me of something Kai once told me about 14 years ago. I told her I had a word in my head that kept coming to mind, and I didn't know what it was. She asked me for it, and did a little searching, and found it had a meaning, actually. She said her friend up in the Center for Native American Studies in Durango, CO told her it was a Navajo word. 'Anakana', meaning "I walk alone."
Amusingly enough, "anakana" also happens to be the name of a pub in London, and part of a pile of comedy gibberish spoken by the Three Stooges. Par for the course, I guess.
