I bought some mysterious food things from a local Korean market. The bars were translucent and contained little dark things suspended within. The added-on English label said "Japanese cookies". Then it hit me.
JAPANESE COOKIES.
THAT ARE NOT COOKIES.
FROM A KOREAN MARKET.
WITH KOREAN ON THE PACKAGE.
MADE IN KOREA.
NOT JAPAN.
But that's not my update's purpose. The "cookies" were actually red bean agar... um, treats, I guess. They were quite tasty, and I got curious, so I wikied agar and it turns out that not only can you grow bacteria and fungus on it, make dental impressions, and use it for electrochemical bridges, but it also is a source of large amounts of fiber and swells to triple it's size in one's stomach. I wonder if I shouldn't consider it as an assistive ingredient in dieting...
Mmm, seaweed jelly. I love weird food.
