New apartment! It's smaller by one bedroom, but it's so much nicer. Building is NOT roach-infested, for one. The apartment manager lives on site in an apartment just like ours, and they also have a brand new maintenance guy who seems to do a pretty nice job. Our apartment is in the last row, downhill from the others, facing trees and a small stream, in the middle of the row. We are dead center of the quietest part of the neighborhood, in the most private spot of the who apartment complex. The only people walking in front of our bedroom window are the tenants from upstairs, who are fairly quiet. The ceilings are made of concrete, so most of the sound from upstairs is completely muffled, though last night they had a guest stay over who snored so loud we could hear it in the living room, but it was not irritating, just funny. The kitchen is the same size, but better arranged, so we have more cabinet space, too. We're about 92% unpacked, a handful of boxes left to sort out. We're in the market for a new couch, but Josh says he can supply one if he can get his dad's truck. Oh, and with Tim and Brantley next door, we always have people to hang with.
The kitties don't seem too upset over the change. There's a closed off common hallway that our front door opens into, so if Witty or Alex try to bolt, it will be a futile effort, since there's another door for them to negotiate, though all three cats have run out into the common room to investigate. Alex is nearly grown, and is generally a holy terror. Witty is doing a pretty good job of making himself scarce, but I hunt him down and love him anyway. Fina seems to like the new place pretty well, though. She took the ride over silently, and seems the most adjusted. Witty only whined a little, and remains grumpy. Alex screamed his fool head off, being his first time in a crate. Scared Danielle half to death.
With things being much cheaper here, we stand to improve our chances of getting financially stable and finding a house. Danielle's job at the game store is rocking. She's getting just a little under the same pay as before, but the shorter hours, simple work, and HUGE reduction in stress is making for a much happier, much calmer girl.
I'm still hunting, of course. Danielle says she has no confirmation, but that my application is one of a handful that are being considered for a position similar to hers at one of the other locations. Really, the same pay for much less work and better hours sounds like a vast improvement to me, too. Here's hoping.
