Cuz you know a cupcake party just don't stop

Last night's sioree (because it could only be described as such) wasn't quite as fun as the party we threw the night before, but I think that's because, whether by design or accident, it could not be anything more than a "Chat over punch and cupcakes" sort of thing. There was a live band (anyone ever heard of the Headlights?), spiked punch, and a bewildering array of cupcake flavors. Ancho chili with chocolate vodka icing, ginger chai, lavender-stuffed chocolate with earl grey tea icing, rose-infused (with sugared petal on top), and berry-basil were some of the cupcakes available. Yeah, I know, but I have to admit most of them were said to be quite, quite tasty. No, I did not try all of them.

Unfortunately, the impressive efforts for a social event were hindered by three things: 1. Loud music in small apartments makes people not talk, 2. Heavy cupcakes in stomachs fill people up before any serious alcohol can loosen said people's thoughts, and 3. Nobody knew anybody else, aside from the hosts. The first hour there was excruciatingly awkward. I found myself the most talkative person in the room, and had attempted conversation with at least six people before one girl actually stuck with me for a little back-and-forth. The rest of 'em just sat around and made serious efforts not to look at anyone else directly. I would've thought that with so many pretty girls present, at least one or two of the guys might be tempted to approach a female, but, aside from those that came together, it simply didn't happen.

In the end, as soon as the band packed up, three-quarters of the party, including new arrivals up to that point, promptly departed, and took all the pretty girls with them (except the one I talked to, but she left, silently, after a game of Apples-to-Apples).

Friends, don't let this happen to your party. Make sure your eats are not stomach-filling, your music isn't overwhelming, and that at least a few of the people at the party aren't timid, reclusive wallflowers...

There was so much potential... *sigh* and my, how I've changed since my first parties...

food, rant, friends, where are cheeks? where are mates?, party
