I was home sick with the collywobbles or whatever nasty-ass bug is currently making the rounds, so I was able to watch Steve Jobs introducing new products live on my iPad. It starts at $999 for the smaller one. On sale now. My credit card is already starting to smoke around the edges.

My first brand-new Mac was the first iMac, back in August of '98. It cost $1299.

You can get a MacBook for $999 with more storage, optical drive, etc. for the same price. Macs do cost a bit more, but they're worth it.

I'm not saying I don't like Macs, or that I don't like my iMac at home (last non-Intel generation, bought used on the cheap), or that I don't wish I could take the shiny new-generation iMac we're getting in at work today home with me.

I just can't afford the damn things.
