Jaejoong doesn't really mind heights. He could either be standing on a ledge with nothing to hold him back from jumping off or filming on top of a 50-storey building, looking down at the cars below him. He considers it an adrenaline rush, just by being somewhere high, somewhere seemingly unreachable and feeling the cold wind against his face.
Jaejoong revels on the way his heart beats faster when he’s on a plane, staring at the vast expanse of blue with a few droplets of white. He feels free despite the glass separating him from being close enough to feel the softness of the clouds on his fingertips.
Jaejoong thrives on the uncertainty he sometimes gets when he slightly slips and almost falls. Because when he regains his footing, when his heartbeat shoots up, when his mind becomes blank for a split second, Jaejoong can't help but laugh loudly after and take another step forward.
So when he learns that Junsu filmed on the rooftop of a very high building in Brazil, Jaejoong couldn't help but be proud of his friend. The same Junsu who always holds his hand just a little too tightly when their plane takes off. The Junsu who squeaks a tad too high whenever Jaejooong convinces him to ride a rollercoaster. Junsu who swears like a sailor when they get off said rollercoaster and doesn't say anything to him on the way back to their hotel. (Promises of sitting beside him the next time earns him a soft "Hmph." and Jaejoong considers himself forgiven.)
But when he finds out that Junsu did it without a harness, with nothing to prevent him from falling, he felt like someone punched him right on the gut, leaving him breathless, frantic, afraid.
Jaejoong doesn't really mind heights. But the next time Junsu decides to be reckless on top of a building, he'd make sure he's right next to him. So that if, or when, Junsu falls, Jaejoong would be there to jump after him and catch the other, thinking that maybe he can, will, soften the impact for Junsu.
Somehow.
