gosh! 8.13!

First of all, I haaated As Time Goes By. It bored the hell out of me with the Men of Letters stuff, so I was really nervous about that plot line boring me to death for the rest of the season. Everybody Hates Hitler totally gave me a new hope. There was just so much to love about this episode! I'm so happy about this show right now! I'm not entirely sucked into the Men of Letters thing, but I'm at least optimistic about it. Even though I didn't like As Time Goes By, I loved Citizen Fang and LARP and the Real Girl, and now this episode too. (I think I liked Torn and Frayed as well but I can't remember it at all right now, lol.) So yay! SUPERNATURAL!

Awesome moments:
  • Dean dancing around in his bathrobe with a sword like a cutie.
  • Dean finding out the sword is sharp. Aww.
  • The rabbi dude insulting the library guy in Hebrew.
  • It was so funny when Dean tells Sam not to geek out. Okay Dean, like you can tell anyone not to geek out after your actions in 8.11.
  • The whole scene where Dean first meets Aaron. Oh my goodness. I can barely even believe that happened. Right after their eye contact from across the room I was like "IS SOMETHING GAY ABOUT TO HAPPEN?" And sure enough. Aaron is so cute and Dean acted so shy and possibly somewhat flirty. Goshhh.
  • "He was my gay thing." Someone please help me.
  • Just... DEAN/AARON OTP. I might write this sometime.
  • The hand that Dean keeps on Sam's shoulder when Sam is unconscious.
  • The golem! This had the possibility to be super laughable, but they made it work. I think it's because Aaron has some really funny lines (like "we're renting here! Renting!" and that he smoked the book) that balance well with the ridiculousness of this giant clay person walking around. I thought it was a fun and intriguing plot, and definitely something they hadn't done before!
  • Dean getting thrown against the car. He was chucked so far!! It must have hurt so bad. He probably had lots of bruises afterwards. :)
  • Dean sipped desperately at some beer and just generally drank a lot.
  • Dean looked so ridiculously cute in this flannel.

  • Sam's outfit when he went to the library, with the elbow patches.
  • "No, Garth, not a tool society."
  • I also loved how this ep makes me want to reread gretazreta's amazing Dean/OMC fic The Accompanist.
  • (Although I'm not crazy about the Bat Cave. It's just so... clean and sophisticated. I like when Sam and Dean have to live in trashy places. Oh well.)

  • I just thought this episode was really well written and well paced and funny, etc. I started out loving this season, then it got kind of 'meh,' and now I think I love it again. YAY SHOW!

Other TV stuff: I started watching Twin Peaks, House of Cards, and Kroll Show. I love Kroll Show, I'm ambivalent about Twin Peaks and House of Cards so far. Suits is absolutely killing it this season. But most of all I'm still in love with Sports Night and have watched it like 3 times in the past month.

And lastly: my biggest problem with 8.12 (apart from boredom) was the stuff about John. Dean said, "he was always there for us," and something along the lines of "he did his best." I remember thinking there was a lot of John worship, which is really, extremely gross to me. I just don't see how anyone can excuse John raising his kids the way he did, even though he was in pain, and I was really shocked to see Dean going back to considering John a hero like he did in season 1. In later seasons we've seen his anger at John and his reluctance to be like him, especially in regards to Ben. I didn't see any of that anger or lack of hero worship from Dean in that episode, it seemed like he regressed back to how he thought of John in season 1. That was just a slap in the face to me as his relationship with his father has been one of the most interesting and well developed parts of his character (and the show) in my opinion. I'd love to hear what sense other people made of the John references in that episode, what did you guys think?
(It's totally possible that I was in a bad mood when I watched it and just misinterpreted everything.)
