The chapter begins with David beginning his journey back home to Blunderstone from Yarmouth. Peggotty is with him of course and climbs into the cart through a hedge which greatly suprises David. During the journey, David talks about the purse he received in the last chapter. This is the first oppurtunity he's had to examine it freely which he does so and discovers two crowns containing a piece of paper which says 'For Davy. With my love.' written by his mother. This is most overwhelming for David who starts to cry and asks for a hankerchief.
The journey pasts uneventfully for a while until they stop. They meet Mr Barkis. He asks about Peggotty's role in the household and they have a pleasant enough conversation. Mr Barkis asks Davy to deliver a message to his mother for him. The message is simply 'Barkis is willing'. David thinks nothing of it and agrees.
At the inn where they stop, David is registered as 'Murdstone' presumably by Mr Murdstone instead of Copperfield.
The rest of the chapter has no events of significant importance.
