Update for 12/21/19

Dec 21, 2019 09:14

I expect this post to be longer than most of my recent updates.

My anxiety has been so bad lately that I asked my psychiatrist to increase the dose on one of my prescriptions. So now instead of taking 50 mg of "Vistaril" (actually the generic version) 2x a day as needed, I'm taking it 3x a day as needed.

Also, I went ahead and bought another refurbished laptop to replace the one I was having screen-trouble with: https://twitter.com/BikerWolfSDA/status/1200481786230444032

It's not the one I originally planned to get, but I think it was a better choice. My previous laptop was an HP model that had a 2nd-gen Intel Core i5 CPU with a base frequency of 2.6GHz, Intel HD Graphics 3000, and 4GB of RAM. The first potential replacement I considered was a different model from the same brand that had a 3rd-gen Intel Core i5 CPU with a base frequency of 2.5GHz, Intel HD Graphics 4000, the same amount of RAM, and Windows 10 Pro instead of Windows 10 Home like I currently have. The laptop I eventually got is a Lenovo model that has a 4th-gen Intel Core i5 CPU with a base frequency of 2.6GHz, Intel HD Graphics 4600, and 8GB of RAM. It also came with a 500GB hard disk drive, but I swapped it out for the 240GB solid state drive that I had in the old laptop. (That SSD had already replaced the old laptop's 320GB HDD.)

I'm having a small problem with the "new" laptop, though. Every time I try to play a game on Steam, it crashes and the screen automatically resets to the default resolution. I think I can fix this if I can figure out what settings need adjustment.

Lastly, I believe my financial situation is going to be better next year, for several reasons. My SSI payments are going up by $12; I have only a single installment left before my smartphone is paid off; my bank converted my checking account to another type after discontinuing the type I had, and as a result, I will no longer have a monthly service charge of $10. (I think that service charge might only have been for sending me a paper statement every month, but since I don't have to worry about it anymore, it doesn't really matter.)

That's probably enough for this update.
